#sansevieriasunday – my smaller Fernwood (or ‘japonesa’ – honestly not sure) has been potted in this concrete planter by @homebody.collective – it has no drainage holes so how is it thriving? Understand how plants work:
1) Light makes a plant work.
2) Roots must be in contact with soil particles to absorb moisture.
3) Moisture that is stale, lingering, and cut off from airflow promotes the conditions for root rot.

So with correct light: the plant will work by absorbing all the soil moisture in a timely manner such that root rot cannot take hold.

In poor lighting (like on a shelf, far from windows): the plant isn’t doing much work so moisture lingers in the soil allowing root rot to develop over several weeks.

What about a drainage layer of gravel? That terrible idea will be addressed in another post…
