Welcome to all 33 videos that make up Backyard Abundance!
This is video number 4 of 33 and it’s all about building the Raised Garden Beds that fit your preferences for Budget & Dimensions.
Based on what we’ve covered in the prior videos, we proceed to plan for 5’ x 12’ Raised Garden Beds with a view to using 3 different designs and materials.
Method 1: resawn (1’x 8’) is the least example b/c you only need 4 boards: 2 for the ends and 2 for the sides. With 1” screws you can fasten the corners into a simple rectangle and you’ve got the least expensive, simplest bed to build.
Method 2: landscape / garden ties are a sturdy solution that will last a LONG time. We will stack these ones 3 tiers tall but you can go taller if you want even deeper beds. Using screws that are at least 1” longer than the thickness of the ties you can connect them together simply at the corners by interlocking them and they’ll be strong and durable.
Method 3: 8” x 16” concrete blocks with an outer dressed face topped with concrete lids. These are good looking, can be sat on while you’re gardening (you could lay them 2 high) and they are indestructible. The most pleasing design to look at is also the most expensive!
It’s a year of incredible gardening – thanks for joining Backyard Abundance!
