Topic: Edible Container Gardening

Container gardening is a practical, low cost, space-efficient, and child-friendly approach to growing fresh produce at home. Using containers can be a permanent, flexible gardening strategy or a short-term first step towards a larger scale installation. Either way, containers are great for growing tasty herbs, delicious salad lettuce, succulent strawberries, and much more.   Success depends on six key considerations: container selection & size, suitable edible plants, growing conditions, high quality potting soil mixture, and care. It is also good to keep in mind how the edible plants will be used. Some options may be for fresh salsa, pizza, salad, or a favorite dressing! The possibilities are endless! To learn more, the Warren County Extension Office is hosting an Edible Container Gardening Basics Program on Tuesday, March 28th beginning at 6:00 PM. If folks would like to learn more about growing edible plants in a container, please contact the Warren County Extension Office at (270) 842-1681.
