It’s early September in the garden and I am ready to do some harvesting! This is actually my largest harvest to date and I am very proud with how everything grew. It only took me 3 seasons, but I finally grew a watermelon that was large enough to eat. It may not look like much, but to me it’s everything!
First, I’ll start with the mini cherry tomatoes I’ve been growing all over the place. I will hang a few vines up and revisit them later.
Next, flowers. Bee and butterfly mix continues to impress.
I let some of the corn go for a while. It is a 2-inch strawberry popcorn variety. I had no intentions of eating it, but it was fun to grow.
Watermelon! Orangeglo and Mountain Sweet Yellow varieties did the best. The Moon & Stars variety got big, but if you skip to the end you can see it was not edible. I am saving seeds from all of the watermelon for next season and hope to grow them even bigger!
Cucumbers–my favorite variety–the Crystal Apple cucumber did well. There was an A/C Pickling cucumber and also a North Carolina heirloom variety that did pretty well too.
