I sure hope you don’t have voles, we were inundated with them last year, I lost so much, I’m putting traps out in the next week to try and get a head start, I’m in Connecticut
Beets totally work in trays! So to rutabagas and turnips. Dont be afraid to try root veg as transplants, don't let them get too big of course, but a small plug with one or maybe two sets of leaves is perfect. I did both this last year and had no issues. I tried it with radishes I waited too long on and that didn't work, but on slower growing stuff, it was fine.
Garry do you carry heavier seed tray bases, one cracked a little fragile, thx let me know Tim. Got these from you last season
Thanks for the motivation. I'm just west of Cleveland, OH near-ish Lake Erie, so it's gonna be cool for a while, but at least I'm getting my headspace right for the Spring. My operation is nothing like yours, but this helps. Thumbs up, Gary. 👍
Small creatures… oh I hope you don't have the voles that have come to my garden. No great way to deal with them…
Squirrels are notorious in my garden…for digging things up, rabbit's as well.
Are you in Maryland 7A or 7B?
That poor fig – skipping right over it (I don't even want to talk about that) – made me laugh out loud. 😂 The grape vine and blackberry starts in your greenhouse (you also did a short vid on this on your Instagram) – what size containers did you put those in? And, while I don't grow any fruit trees, I've always heard that peach trees should be pruned with a goblet shape in mind (open in the middle), so definitely think you're on the right track with yours.
I love the idea of the scan code, that'd be so helpful 🙂 Do you ship to Canada?
Oh wow! Congrats on the Rusted Garden seeds!! How awesome!!!!
Does the greenhouse negate the need to “harden” the plants off? After seed starting inside, then spending time in the greenhouse, do you still bring them out to harden or they are good to go after spending some time in the greenhouse?
Also, When do you put your onions out? I started mine in small cells and they have outgrown the small cells, I wanted to avoid potting up, can I transplant them if they spend 2 weeks hardening off even if threat of frost is still real and likely (zone 7A)?
When do you start the beets in cells? March? Do you start any other root crops inside the way you do the beets?
Everything looks great in your garden and love the greenhouse. I am doing the winter sowing and the plants are doing well. Thank you for this video.
How do we prune the roses trees thanks 🙏
The greenhouse is looking good!
Gary it’s looking good, I like the green house. We been wanting one for a while. I’m zone 8a and already got quite a bit started. Looking forward to watching your channel and the development of the garden.
Our peach trees get pruned with a completely open center by pruning to 3 or 4 scaffolding branches. It gives a lot of sunlight and air circulation. The short tree is now easy to pick, prune again, spray or cover.
Hi, Gary. It’s always great watching your videos. I live in MD, too. Can’t wait for warmer weather! Looking forward to seeing your garden of planted seeds from Portugal. By the way, I like your barcode idea on the seed packets.
Love the garden ramblings! Thank you for sharing.
Great video, Gary! I'm exhausted just listening to you!
That cold frame that holds up pretty well in cool weather
Your greenhouse is awesome! Love seeing the "before" of this coming garden season. I am excited to see the Portugal space as well. I have decided that I will grow what I eat, and eat what I grow. I enjoyed seeing your fruit trees, and the axe throwing station is a really cool idea. I absolutely adore your garden space, and seeing all of the different growing areas! All of the things you have added give me inspiration. I really wish I had a larger property. I am in zone 7 and I have some broccoli, kale, and cauliflower ready to transplant as soon as this next bit of 20 something temperatures pass through. Love your videos, thanks!
