This Seed Starting Moments series is about the “whys and some of the hows” of my seed starting story.
My #1 tip: Keep it Simple and Stay out of Rabbit Holes created by so much Internet noise
Germination Tips & Tricks:
• Air temperature should be 65-70F for cool-season plants, 70-80F for warm-season plants
• Use a seedling heat mat – place warm-season plant trays directly on the mat, but put cool-season plant trays on a cookie cooling rack over the mat to slightly reduce heat
• Know whether the seed needs light or darkness to sprout and sow accordingly
• Moisture level – overwatering grows algae & mold. They don’t kill but the cause of them does.

I only have my garage, what do you suggest?
Do you cold stratify snapdragons? Do you do cold stratification for any of your hardy annuals? I have been reading articles & watching videos and so many people say hardy annuals and perennials need cold stratification for germination.
I learn something new every time I listen to you. Fantastic information.
Love learning from you. Thank you for sharing!
So when you are germinating seeds on the heat mat, what do they get for light? My grow space is in my basement and the lights are not on very often down there. Should they have a light on above them when germinating?
I’ve heard people sprinkle cinnamon on top of soil to help prevent algae. Have you heard of this?
