Welcome! Part 2 of my Week 4 Master Gardeners training was focused on plant propagation. I was SURE I knew everything I needed to know about propagation, but boy was I WRONG! Join me today for a discussion and demonstration of cutting propagation and recommendations from a very knowledgable propagator! 🌱 Enjoy!
🌿 UPDATE! I now have an Amazon Store where all amazon available products will be located! Looking for a link to my greenhouse? It’s here! Looking for those books I recommended? It’s here too! It’s ALMOST as fun as going to the plant store! 😉

Thanks, Janey, for all this information. It was definitely worth watching.
Very interesting! So glad you're sharing all of this information with us! Now I'm thinking I may want to take the Marster Gardener's class!
I successfully propagated one of my houseplants this past few weeks! So excited when you see those new roots! I’m thankful for all the new info Janey, as I’ve also had many propagating fails 😆 have a lovely week everyone 🌱
Good Monday morning Janey.
Great video Janey. TY very much.
Interesting as I’ve never sterilized my cuttings either…. 9 to 1 is good to know! I’m a little put off (not by you) at UC Davis keeping “secrets” in a rooting hormone. After all they are an educational center!! My tax dollars at work!
Hi. How many hours per day do you leave your grow- lights on?
Janey, this information was fantastic, and I learned something new today …I have never used bleach water on a cutting before. Thank you for enlightening me about using bleach water as the disinfectant on my pruners also. Even though I won't be taking cuttings to propagate for several months in zone 5a, I'll definitely remember this tip. ~Margie🤗🌱
Thanks Janey. It's always interesting to learn new techniques. I have been using up my excess stock of hand sanitizer to clean my indoor garden snips for about a year. Before that I probably was just running them under water. Always evolving…
I am learning so much from your learning! Thanks!
This was so informative. I'm thrilled Salvias are easy to start. Thank you for sharing.
Oh man! I needed this last night!!
Thanks Janey! Do you know if this works for hydrangea cuttings also?
I put four cuttings on the four sides of the pot so each touches the the pot. I read the contact makes them grow more roots.
I love propagating. It saves so much money. Did you mention that there are some rules about propagation and that you can't sell plants that you take cuttings from that are licensed (I know that's the wrong term but I can't think of the right term) like Proven Winners? Is it trademarked? Anyway, just thought I'd mention that.
I clipped a few branches from my dentist's office and now have a lot of purple fuzzy salvia,
I was surprised that you are supposed to put holes in the top. I never have. For several years I grew coleus cuttings in my basement. I never put holes in the top.
Omg we got TWO videos 😦🎉 I thought part two was going to go live tomorrow 😅
I love making more new house plants. However, I had not heard of the bleach water technique either. Very interesting video Janey. As always thanks for sharing with us. Have a wonderful week! I just love your channel!
Great information and very interesting! Thank you. 🌱 M
Hi Janey🌺good information about propagation . I always like to do experiments with mixing honey and ground cinnamon and put the cuttings in the mixture and plant them and I succeeded with jasmine roses and hibiscus. Have awonderful day 🌻🌺🌻
So fascinating!! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I Learning so much!!
you can use pure vermiculite, it holds enough water, I do all my seeds in it with 100% success
I have learned so much from you today. And always. Thanks for sharing what you are learning. I applied to my master gardener program but was not accepted because they had too many applicants. Learning with you has been the perfect substitute. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thank you for sharing this information! So very helpful. I look forward to watching the entire master gardener series.
Excellent info Janey!! Thank you for sharing your master gardener skills with us
Thank you for the information. I have some questions. Do you use the Seed Started mix, Perlite, and Vermiculite together? Or just the Perlite and Vermiculite? And how many hours do you keep the growing light on? 💖🙏🏻
Wow! Great information! I recently propagated a limb from our hibiscus shrub. I was so confused! I placed it in a water bottle with some water and just sat it in my office with me. It was being very indifferent! 🙂 In that I mean.., it wouldn't bloom but nor would it die. So as long as its leaves were green it could stay. Low and behold 4 months later there were roots in that murky green water! I placed it in potting soil and last weekend it actually bloomed a flower! Not bad for a broken limb that got damaged, moving the plant into the garage for over-wintering! Thanks for the info!
You are a great teacher, thank you for sharing!
Thanks! This was a great video! I was so surprised about putting the cutting in bleach!! Great info!
