In this video we’ll survey what, if any, damage was done to our property by the latest rainstorm. I’ll show you my favorite breakfast and let you see the “after” of cleaning the garage. Plus a little more talk and answering your questions about the rooster.

  1. We have a couple of those shelves and they are just great to have for storage. Also, I used to have a rooster like yours. He nailed all in the family but me, but…he came after me too a little later. We had him for about a year then had to eventually use him for food. Just saying…

  2. Love the vlog video and yes I would like for Emily to show us how to make sourdough bread. You all had me laughing while slurping the coffee.

  3. I'm glad you and your family are okay through all of this, Brian.
My big winter project is to clean and organize my garage and basement. Believe it or not, it's way worse than yours was. It happened with us ADHD people… luckily mine isn't on video (my wife would be mortified ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคฃ)!

  4. Did you think about putting a pond in where your run off water goes into the pasture? Then the run off water will naturally fill your pond during the winter rain

  5. I'm not surprised that you're practical breakfast. My son is an artist and uses a spoon to eat as well. He's also a chef ๐Ÿ™‚ Creative minds…I have 2 chickens and wondered what dry food you feed yours because mine don't care for the pellets much. When I did my research prior to getting them, I read that if they don't free range, it is a good idea to feed them a teaspoon of salmon cat food for protein once in a while. Have you ever heard of such thing? The garage looks great! I like those storage units too.

  6. You didn't have the rooster upside-down under your arm for that tour- maybe next time? What a great learning curve to see the water move through your property. I can see the swale!

  7. I would love to see you do a sourdough.. I have a starter and make tons of English muffins and scones and biscuits but have never done a loaf

  8. Good to know Iโ€™m not the only one who makes noise while drinking coffee! Way to go Em! Please show us how to make sour dough! That would be awesome!! โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿž๐Ÿ’•That garage looks amazing!

  9. OMG, I got so many chuckles out of this video!! I am loving this new vlog style! Someone else commented that it suits you and I agree 100%. Also love seeing Emilie (and hearing her slurp!). Nothing better than โ€˜real lifeโ€™ I say, keep up the good work!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

  10. Love these videos. We currently live ( for the last 40 years) on a steep block in the family home we raised our children in. We will be selling it at the end of the year when I retire and are currently considering what to move to. We were thinking of a flat block but l am now considering a sloping block again after watching these videos, but not as steep as our current land. Thanks for unknowingly helping with this decision. And definitely yes to the sour dough! BTW my garage is a mess all the time these days with our children constantly moving or travelling and our place seems to be the constant temporary storage solution. Thanks for getting the homestead channel up and running again, it greatly adds to my weekly YouTube intake.

  11. Hi again Brian, regarding the drainage problem in your garden: 1. It might be worth digging, after finishing the preparation of the beds and walls for the back garden, two or three shallow trenches up the street in the direction of the garden so that the water flows slowly into the garden area and soaks into the soil. It depends, of course, if there will be a place for the water to drain without turning the garden into a swamp. 2. In my opinion, in the low part before the garage opening, it is worth investing in digging a trench and covering it with a metal mesh to prevent leaves and debris. In such a way that even a stronger stream of water will not be able to enter the ditch and will drain to the right towards the low area. I would appreciate it if you could comment on it. Thank you and good luck, Iris Marks, Israel.

  12. Like you I could eat the same thing everyday for breakfast: 2 of our hens eggs, 1 cup of fresh greens from the garden (mostly kale and chard all year until spinach is growing) and 1/2 cup of berries..whatever is growing in the backyard garden or whatever berry was on sale. Son also has toast so would like that bread recipe!

  13. Glad you made it through the storms ok. We had one here in NC last night, but not much in my area. Loving the new style of video! I giggled at the Emilie moments (Including the message about the pile) .

  14. You left all that flavor in the pan. You should make a sauce out of it and pour over you steak & eggs.

  15. Had to pause the video so I could finish making pancakes for the 3rd day in a row. Iโ€™ve got breakfast envy for sure ๐Ÿ˜‚ And I flippin love my kitchen scissors.

  16. In mich we have basements but still a lot of the people have garages that are full, but not full of cars!

  17. We were in the truck during the last video…my husband was laughing so hard when you told the rooster that you hated him. He almost wrecked….funny stuff

  18. Oh my gosh, our garage looks much worse than yours! It's constantly a work in progress when it comes to straightening it up! :0

  19. Our running joke is if we can't find something "it's out in the garage somewhere" we have 3 lawnmowers, a kyak, totes..garden supplies…etc

  20. I'm so glad you decided to go vlog style!! Thank for sharing a bit more of yourself and day to day life!! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  21. Would you explain what you're doing with the back of the chicken coop? It seems like the thatch would have to go over the peak of the roof and it all appears to be open. I'm interested. Thanks!

  22. Lops are a great house pet, easily liter trained. Why not in your house? Mine is actually deaf so a little more difficult to train this one than the others we have had but she and my collie get along great in the house.

Your homestead us coming along nicely and tell Emily Iโ€™d be happy if my garage looked like your did โ€œdirtyโ€. Ours is so bad. ๐Ÿ˜‚

  23. Your breakfast is perfect.
I never believed butter was bad for me. My mom taught me different. She actually taught me how awful margarine was so I've always avoided it and used butter. I just think using a natural fat is always the better way to go.

  24. Looks like a very Hygge (Danish for coziness) morning with you and Emilie. I also like the Vlog style video, I think it works much better for the Homestead channel, itโ€™s what most, if not all the other homesteaders are doing on YouTube. And it was not strange to see scissors being used to cut the meat, I do that too. You know most of Korea has been doing this for decades and itโ€™s also common in Korean restaurants for Hot Pot. I also use scissors to cut my homemade Kimchi into a bowl, or on top or fish, chicken, rice etc. You never cut Kimchi on a wood or white cutting board, your Korean grandmother will hurt you ๐Ÿ˜‚. I do have a red gel cutting board for things like meats & kimchi that can be sanitized in the dishwasher. I should take you to the Korean Market, they have better thin tongs with teeth that are great for small pieces or strips of meat the way you like it. They are great for holding meat while cutting with scissors right into broth, soups or into a bowl. Work smarter not harder right. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would love to see some of the kitties but overall great video, thanks for sharing!๐ŸŽ‰
