Gardener’s Supply Company sent me a sweet care package full of seed starting supplies, and just because there’s snow on the ground doesn’t mean we can’t grow indoors. I love germinating seeds and growing microgreens and here are three different ways I do it:⁣

Jute Mats 🌱⁣
The jute plant is a renewable resource that can be turned into an absorbent fiber. It has many applications, but your seeds will love it. I poured a bunch of beet seeds on top and wet the mats with a misting spray. The seeds then rooted right into the fiber five days later⁣

Seed Starting Mix 🌿⁣
This more traditional method involves soil, but seed starting mix tends to be lighter and more airy than traditional garden soil. This makes it easier on the seeds to germinate and grow their roots, and I gently folded them into the top ayer of soil before giving them a drink⁣

Paper Pots 🪴⁣
This is my favorite zero waste hack and this wooden paper pot is so simple and effective. I use cut up newspapers or repurposed brown packaging paper to roll out the shape, fold the bottom, press it into the base and then twist away! ⁣

I’m using a heat mat and grow light set on an automated timer, but a sunny window will do just fine. If you’re harvesting micro greens, they should be ready to harvest in just 14 days 😋 ⁣

BTW – Gardener’s Supply Company is a 100% Employee Owned Company and a Socially Responsible B Corporation! How cool is that 👏⁣
