Here are a dozen trellising designs to grow crops vertically. But did you know trellises can also be used to extend growing seasons and protect plants from shutting down during the heat of summer?

Thank you, Gary. You said 'ladder mesh'? I couldn't find it at Home Depot this year. They looked at me like I am talking a foreign language. You said maybe a masonary ladder mesh. I have never heard of a masonary shop…I looked on amazon, no luck. Could you please give us a link to some shop or amazon account? Looks nice and light weight, easy for seniors to use and storing it would require minimal space us with senior living communities. I was very lucky to have one of our grounds keeper men find me a 4'x5' piece of concrete reinforcement and some poles. Excellent for my cucumbers last year and you are right, it will be there forever. I have watched your channel from the very beginning and loved your sincere, honest and budget minded gardening style and still do. Thank you for sharing your creative gardening style and inspiring many, many young and old gardeners.
I was just about to put my rubber boots on and head out to do some cleaning in my garden when your video popped up.
Thank you Gary for always providing such informative content on gardening! As a Towson area resident I’m so happy to have found an experienced local sharing their gardening knowledge as the year progresses. I made a purchase from your seed store over Black Friday and I’m excited to grow them over this upcoming season!
This last season I learned that onions do not like to be in a semi shaded area, so they are better out in the open with no nearby trellising…. or maybe I did something else wrong that made them not bulb. Are there other crops that are that way as well? What crops would do best near a trellis where shade is produced for half the day?
Great video, I will have to see what I can come up with myself. Thank you.
Great video! I always love to see your garden, summer or winter. I do have a question though, how do you manage 10’ vertically? Meaning how do you get the crops up there and how do you harvest that high up?
