Butternut Squash Bread

1 ¾ c. flour
1 t. Baking soda
½ t. Salt
¼ t. Nutmeg
¼ t. Cloves
¼ t. Ginger
1 ½ t. Cinnamon (I used about 3 t .I LOVE cinnamon. 😄)
½ c. canola oil (or coconut oil, or butter)
¾ c. sugar
½ c. packed brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 ½ c. butternut squash puree*
¼ c. orange juice (I used pineapple juice, but you can also use water!)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×5 loaf pan or muffin tin.
Combine dry ingredients.
Combine wet ingredients.
Add dry to wet.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake loaf pan for about 60-65 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean or until the top feels springy to the touch.
For muffins, bake about 20 minutes.

*To make Butternut Squash Puree: Cut squash in half lengthwise, scoop out seeds, sprinkle cut sides with salt. Set cut side down on baking pan. I lined my baking pan with foil, which isn’t necessary, but makes clean up easier. Pour some water in pan (about ¼-½”). Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 1 hour or until fork tender.

  1. I have embraced your mother’s adage- romancing the ordinary. What a lovely way to enjoy the world.

  2. What a unquic recipe! I'll give it a go with my grandkids! My granddaughter said we need to have a tea party there with Benjamin. I thought it was so sweet. It just goes to show that even a 5 year old loves to see your videos, and they are real life and enjoyable by everyone of all ages.

  3. Thank you so much for this recipe, I know I'll love it !! The kids are of course adorable and they are so blessed to have you and Aaron as their parents ! P.s.so are your chickens!!!

  4. Awesome including Samantha❤️I know it’s always more work but I have always allowed my grandkids to help❣️They all know how to cook for themselves❤

  5. Ahhh so sweet. So often we don't let the little ones help because it will take much longer. You do such an amazing job letting them help. When we let them help it teaches them to do. Well done Laura, I just love seeing you work with the kids!

  6. You forgot to mention that people need to watch for mold. And dump it and start over of it gets moldy, and not give it to their birds.😊

  7. I "dated" each of my kids and am reaping the rewards now that they are in their 20s. Now my daughter invites me over for "tea time". love this video!

  8. Thank you for sharing! Your children are so smart and adorable 🥰 looking forward to trying this recipe too, have a great week!!!

  9. Hello Laura, I have been watching your videos for a few months now, really just learned of your (you tube channel) a bit ago. I must admit I'm an avid outdoor person and gardener, but watching your beautiful children makes my day! My grandchildren live away from me in another state so seeing your children puts a smile on my face every time!

  10. At least 6” of snow yesterday and probably at least 5” more this morning to snowblow/shovel. Thanks for the great video to help get me going. ❤

  11. OK first of all I always love seeing the chickens but this video was the cutest thing ever and ended with the most incredible tea party with your beautiful son. Watching both Benjamin and Samantha you can see their differences and the way they interact. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. And I can’t wait to make that bread it looks amazing.

  12. Love seeing Samantha in there 'cooking' with you-love that you are including her in all you do-you guys are great parents!

  13. Me and my grand-daughter have tea parties. Well, I drink whatever she pours in my cup. Christmas Eve, we had Gatorade. Best day ever!! Samantha Grace, tasting the flour mixture, cracked me up. The face she made after tasting it was hilarious 😂. She was a good helper on making the muffins. You got to spend quality time with both Benjamin and Samantha Grace, and that's all that matters. You and Aaron are so patient with both the kid's. I enjoy watching you plant your flowers and spending time with your family. You have a wonderful life.

  14. Samantha Grace is the sweetest little helper. And Benjamin the sweetest company for afternoon tea in the Hartley. Definitely making the butternut squash muffins, thanks Bethany and Laura.

  15. I was just thinking yesterday that I would love to see you bake some thing in the kitchen with your kids or just alone we’ve been enjoying that turkey burger recipe. I am monthly rotation, really love that you made that within the last year I believe it’s hard to find much of interest to do in the garden for me this time of year, so I love your videos, but I really have appreciated watching you bake some thing yummy would love to see a bit more of that even though it’s a gardening show.

  16. What a nice video. Laura. Loved watching Samantha helping you in the kitchen. She’s adorable. Benjamin really liked those ball muffins! Thank you for sharing such precious moments with your family. 😊💖🦋🕊

  17. Love watching the kiddos help you, they are adorable! Samantha is getting so big! Love watching your chickens too. They are so beautiful and are cared for so well. Lucky them. Thank you Bethany for the recipe for the muffins. On my to do list for sure! Yummo!! Have a blessed day!

  18. I enjoyed todays video! It was delightful to watch the kids this morning. The rose tin is a must have, how beautiful ❤ . Thank you for sharing your special moments!
