In this video I pot up my sub-tropical plant haul from Madeira. The plants potted in this video are heliconia, nerine, Scilla madeirensis, Hippeastrum papilio ‘Raquel’, protea, telopea, leucospermum, Aloe thompsoniae and cymbidium backbulbs. I also show the two gorgeous cattleya orchids I bought but they are not ready for repotting yet.

I decided to publish a little early today as many might want something relaxing to watch on New Year's Day. Happy New Year.
You were right, I didn't believe a hippeastrum could be epiphytic and had to look it up! Amazing! What an exciting little collection. 😁
Wish you Very happy new year 🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊😍🥰😍🥰😍😍🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹💐💐💐💐
Horse Blood & Bone. Gr8! Thank you! I've had my laugh, positively! 😂
"I'm not going to tempt fate," she says, as her arm is moving next to a planted pot on the edge of the table.
How exciting, Rachel!!! Lovely choices of an expert 🙌 Exciting to have a cultivar with your name on it even if not properly registered. The Cattleya blooms are gorgeous ❤️❤️❤️ Happy gardening year !!!
Hello Rachel, it's wonderful to see you back and repotting!! Your haul is awesome, and I am looking forward to seeing them progress!!
Be certain not to add phosphorus to your potting mix with that Waratah. Australian natives will curl up their toes.
Lovely little collection of subtropical plants, Rachael. I will enjoy their journey in Ireland. It’s news to me that hippys are epiphytic as they grow happily in gardens here, lasting in expanding clumps for years. Very interesting. Plants are endlessly fascinating. Thanks for a great session.
I sometimes think we need to be more specific in classifying epiphytes. There are some that are found exclusively in the forks in trees growing in dense leaf litter and detritus, making them more like a semi-terrestrial, but because they are found in the tree they are classed as epiphytes. Others (like Brassavola) are found exclusively on bare bark, while others (like H. papilio) are found on branches covered in live moss, etc. Wouldn't it be helpful if there was some distinction so we could grow them more appropriately to their native environment?
Excellent video, Rachel , enjoyed it a lot! Looking forward to seeing them grow and hopefully blooms! Thanks for sharing and happy growing 😀! Happy New year!
How did you transport all these plants back in one piece?
