In this video I show how to use rope, pulleys, improvised sleds, and dolly’s to move heavy awkward things.

We all hafta watch out for our backs these days, especially old people like me. Thanks for showing this. It's good to see and know what other heavy lifting alternate ways there are before you get started on heavy projects.
Happy New Year to ya!
Simple ways that everyone should know. Great video. Dollys can be very dangerous by the way, when dropping something heavy on the one end it will cause the handle to lever itself up quickly. I managed to learn that the hard way while getting some heavy fencing about 130lbs off the tailgate of my pickup and dropping it directly onto the dolly which proceeded to launch forward into my face, breaking two teeth and giving making me see stars for a minute.
I love applied physics. Even better when outside.
Great video. Do you have tips on best way of moving bags of mulch and dirt? My mom is in her 80’s and it is becoming difficult for her.
My Uncle had a cabin with a woodlot and a sled type dog,(malamute)
When they were up at the cabin, my Uncle would cut logs to the length the dog could handle in its pulling harness and they would haul logs instead of going for a walk. The dog loved it!
Great tips. Thank you. Happy New Year.
My trick for lifting heavy things (e.g. suitcase) from ground level up into the back of the SUV. The SUV has a cargo net with 2 anchor points left and right. I disconnect that from one side so it has only one anchor point. I twist the net a few times making it "like a rope". Holding the free end of the net/rope in one hand, allow the center of the net to drape down near the ground. Now it's in the shape of a skinny "U". Maneuver the heavy object so it straddles the bottom of the U-shaped net/rope. Use other hand to steady the top of the heavy object so the net stays under it. Now lift the hand holding the free end of the net. You have a 2:1 mechanical advantage lifting the object against gravity. The object does rotate to become usually upside down, but at least it's now up at trunk level.
Really interesting Greg and I really should learn some of those knots . The way I have been doing it is I stand the log up on end and just flip it over and over . So if I were to buy one of those pulleys I'd have to ask for a "moving pulley "right ? 🌳🌳🌳
Being 60 and perhaps a lil out of shape, these are great things to know. At this age healing is a long process. Thanx for sharing!PS, actually round is a shape, isn't it ? 😉
10 lengths of 4” PVC pipe cut to 12” would certainly help move those logs.
