京都市の北側、洛北と呼ばれる地域にある圓通寺、妙満寺、蓮華寺の日本庭園。どの庭園も、座敷からゆっくり静かに眺めたい人におすすめ。京都市内から少し外れた場所にあるリピーターが多い名園です。
江戸時代初期、文化サロンの中心人物であった後水尾天皇が、比叡山の眺めにこだわり抜いた場所に自ら石を配した、まるで絵巻物のような優雅な圓通寺の枯山水庭園。俳諧の祖松永貞徳が作庭した俳画のように愛らしい妙満寺の「雪の庭」。石山丈山や狩野探幽など江戸時代初期を代表する文芸家・画家・文化人らそうそうたるメンバーが協力して再興された蓮華寺の小さくも洗練された庭園。どの庭園も目をみはる洗練された造形と美しい空間、京都ならではの庭園です。
