Part 4 of my Tips for the new or beginning gardener.

Tip 4 is start small, grow what you love and don’t be afraid to experiment.

So often, we take the “bigger is better” approach and we burn ourselves out, and give up. Start small.

Grow what you love to eat. Why grow something just because of other peoples ideas of what you grow in a garden. If you don’t like “lettuce”, don’t grow it.

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Unless it involves a great investment, don’t be afraid. The cost is usually as small as a packet of seeds. In the end, you may love what ever it is you choose to try.

Look for the next tip tomorrow.

  1. It's a shame that people give up but I don't think they realize they could be their own worst enemy and not even realize it. You just gave the most valuable tip there is!👍

  2. This is excellent advice for anyone going into gardening. We try new stuff every year in our garden. We keep what works and what we like and we get rid of the rest.

  3. Hiya Catherine, I am loving this new series of yours, it's not just for new growers either, it's good to be reminded even when you're used to growing too. if you like celery then you'll love celeriac, we like it roasted. Take care. Alex

  4. Great advice. Our previous house had just one garden bed for vegies, so we really had to choose carefully what we wanted to plant so we planted what we knew we would like. Now we have a lot more space so we can experiment with things we have never tried. (Note to self: Never grow Turkish Orange eggplants ever again. They are awful!)
