Harvesting some red jaboticaba fruit again, after 7yrs of being planted out in the grove. I’ve been harvesting fruits for a good 3yrs now, but production is up. Some years are much better than others, depending on rainfall and heat. This year was very poor, but we’re getting a nice late crop. I think next year should be much better. I think this could be a great alternative crop for Blueberries and Citrus in some states.

  1. When I'm picking strawberries I'll always pick them right into berry pint boxes so I don't need to handle them a second time. Definitely recommend this for your jaboticabas, can help your yields a ton especially if you plan to store them, at least for strawberries one bruise can rot quick and mess up a whole batch. Works great when you take a crate and line the bottom with as many pints possible and just let the fruit drop right into the pints.

  2. hey you shipped my order today! i had a jabo at a rare fruit tree sale a few years ago and i loved it. black thick skin sweet and tart! cant wait to try the red😁

  3. Thanks for clarifying astringent vs non-astringent jabo varieties. The first time I had sabara, it was disgusting…apparently not ripe even though super dark/almost black. Wish I'd been warned! Almost gave up on it, but the ripe fruit are delicious. Great info!
