Such a beautiful conversation with @ClaireKohda , author of #WomanEating ! We speak of viewing relationships with other people and ourselves through the lens of vampirism and multi-racial identity, the yearning for and the fear of connection, and also food as not only sustenance, but connection. We also spent a great deal of time discussing double-consciousness. Watch now and pick up the book if you haven’t already!

Hi Amerie! π₯³
Fascinating & informative discussion. I'm certainly intrigued enough to read this captivating novel. I normally don't read fiction novels, but this particular book seems to draw attention. A vampire that seemingly has a heart. She's independent, conscious minded, and protective of her mother. Thank you for sharing!
Hey, Amerie, how are you today gorgeous? πππππ

Can't wait to check this one out
Food is all about connection. It is memories and experience all thrown together most times with a spoon full of love.
My wife is from the United Kingdom and I myself am from the Netherlands. One could argue that there is but a wee bit of water between our countries of origin, but the way food is prepared including the various ingredients vary a lot. I can see another connection where our daughters connect with my wife while cooking and even though they are folowing a certain recipe, some bits will always have to be a part of the dish; just because! Meantime they add their own bit of flavor with adding different veg or spices.
They have got their own flavour and a favourite dish of course but some ingredients will always stay, cause that is how it was, and therefor will be. I truly believe she is more at ease/relaxed when we are all eating a dish from the UK, no matter if she herself or her mom or our daughters made it. The dish means warmth and I guess also the feel of home?
I am not much of a chef, but can hold my own. When it comes to baking pie, I will leave that to others and whenever my mom has baked a pie, even the smell of it will bring me right back to the first bite I ever tasted. I have enjoyed many lovely apple pies in my life now but my mom's version is truly special to me.
The fact that we got sick at the same time is wild. The dry cough is killing me too, ugh! lol. With that said, I just finished the new Interview with the Vampire series on AMC so I'm really interested in reading this novel. So fascinated by what you guys were discussing re: cooking and recipes being lost over the generations. We need to discuss this.
Also, re: Japanβ there's a confluence of problems: unromantic 20-somethings (otaku culture), womenβs entry into the workforce, and a hugely overlooked factor is the trouble young men are having finding steady, well-paid jobs. Apparently there is lack of good jobs, in Tokyo specifically, which may be creating a generation of men who donβt marry and have children because they literally canβt afford it.
Love this interview. Have a great holiday.
read the stormlight archives, kingkiller chronicles, the gentlemen bastards, riyria revelations, mistborn saga, dresden files. these are the books i never see on here
