Yosuien, a daimyo garden facing Wakayama Bay and drawing seawater into a garden pond. There are only two Shioiri Gardens in Japan, Hamarikyu Gardens in Minato-ku, Tokyo and Yosuien in Wakayama.
It was built in 1826, during the Edo period. It is a daimyo garden of the Kishu Tokugawa family, which was built as a garden for enjoying the tea ceremony. The planting is mainly evergreen pine, and it is a simple and minimal daimyo garden with a focus on the elements composed of mountains and ponds in the background.
The garden space, which is surrounded by the mountains of the borrowed scenery, and the water surface, which rises and falls according to the ebb and flow of the tide, creates an emotion in the garden, and you can enjoy the changes while wandering around.
In addition, the east side of the garden has a composition that imitates West Lake in China, and a straight Mitsuhashi bridge, which is rare in a Japanese garden, hangs. 和歌山湾に面し、海水を庭池に引き入れた汐入の大名庭園、養翠園。汐入庭園は日本には東京港区の浜離宮恩賜庭園とこ和歌山の養翠園の２つしかありません。
1826年、江戸時代に茶の湯のための庭園として造営された紀州徳川家の大名庭園で、植栽は常緑のマツを主とし、借景の山々と池で構成された要素を絞ったシンプルでミニマルな大名庭園です。
借景の山々と一帯となった庭園空間と、潮の干満に応じて上下し細波が立つ水面が庭園に情緒を生み、変化を楽しみながら回遊することができます。
また庭の東側は中国西湖を模した構図で、日本庭園には珍しい直線状の三ツ橋が掛かります。200年保たれた借景と一体となった、江戸時代にタイムスリップしたかのような広大な庭園空間です。
