EVEN MORE ENCHANTED

Legacy sequels are all the range in the 21st Century. From Blade Runner: 2049 to Rocky Balboa and David Gordon Green’s new Halloween trilogy, from Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Terminator: Dark Fate, via Top Gun: Maverick and the Jurassic World series, if you want a sure financial thing these days, just put out a movie catching up with some beloved characters a decade or two on.

Which brings us neatly to Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to Disney’s charming, affectionate semi-parody of its own fairytale past, Enchanted. Back in 2007, Giselle (Amy Adams) was transported from the animated storybook kingdom of Andalasia to the slightly less animated story book kingdom of New York City, where she found true love in the form of lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey), and a stepdaughter in his young daughter Morgan. Now, 15 years later, we catch up with those characters and find that ‘happily ever after’ is easier said than done.

Featuring new songs by returning composer Alan Menken, familiar supporting faces like James Marsden and Idina Menzel as King Edward and Queen Nancy, and (randomly enough) the Blank Check podcast’s Griffin Newman as Pip the chipmunk, the new movie also stars Maya Rudolph as the evil queen Malvina, and is full of magical shenanigans just like its predecessor.

It’s only just out on Disney Plus, but we’ve got you covered – here are all the easter eggs, background details, gags, callbacks, references and Things You Missed for the biggest legacy sequel of this part of the year – until Avatar: The Way of Water drops in about a month.

  1. I liked this movie, and Gabriella Baldacchino did a great job as the new Morgan. It was neat that they were able to get the original Morgan back for a brief cameo.

  2. Why are you guys covering Disney so much? It's destroying your channel. Clearly, people have moved away from the mouse.

  3. Am I the only one who noticed the chandelier? Hello? Frozen reference.

  4. What a disappointing sequel! The screenplay was totally cliched and filled with too many overused tropes. I blame the writer who didn't have a clue.

  5. Queen Nancy played by Idina Menzel sings the song “Love Power” which contains the lyric “Let it Grow, Let it Glow” – surely a reference to the same actress singing the song “Let it Go” as Elsa in ‘Frozen’ ?
