  1. Magnolia! Yay! Gorgeous! I lived in Wilmington, NC for many years and loved the plants there! That will look so pretty and fill out the space well.

  2. I live magnolias too and have several in Williamsburg. Can't wait to see how this variety works for you if it does maybe it might work here in Western North Carolina 😉

  3. I didn’t realize a magnolia would survive the winters. I’m in Michigan I wonder if they would survive here too….

  4. Wow what a change! I too would love a magnolia, guess I’ll research more for zone 6….
    Thanks for sharing. 👒💕

  5. They did a great job! And what a large empty space! I never realize just how much space they take up until they’re gone. The magnolia is going to be so pretty in that spot!

  6. It’s always tough to remove trees from our yards but what a relief when they are gone. Glad you have a chance to dream of new plants. Can’t wait to see what you do with it because it will be awesome.

  7. WOW! Really interesting watching them grind up the stump! I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be beautiful.

  8. I agree with the magnolia. I had a yoshino cherry tree that took over my front yard and had to remove. The roots are still all over my front yard. I do not recommend this tree. It was beautiful though.

  9. Wow what a difference!! Excited to see the new spaces planted. I have a magnolia tree, not sure what kind but I love it. East Central mn.💜💙💜

  10. I think the magnolia is PERFECT!!! If that doesn't say Southerner's Northern Garden, I don't know what does!!

  11. We removed a large maple tree about 9 or 10 years ago, and we still have to periodically add more soil to the area as it continues to settle. We gave it several years before adding a new tree several yards from it, and we noticed the roots of the new tree are closer to the surface of the soil. We added more soil to the area of the new tree this summer and seeded with grass so the roots are not subject to injury with the lawn mower! My husband uses the trimmer so as to avoid any damage. The two new areas you now have will look so nice with new trees added! It's amazing the opportunities it opens up!!!

  12. Wow what a difference so neat and tidy they did a wonderful job, can’t wait to see the magnolia tree it will be lovely… thank you for sharing ❤🇨🇦

  13. I love how you showed the process of the trees coming down! And that’s great planting real estate where the trees were ❤

  14. Oh I completely forgot about the magnolia tree. When I offered suggestions. I racked my brain all last winter figuring out where to put one but it gets too big for our yard. We would have to remove our blue spruce to put one in. Our neighbor put one in and I just adore it when driving by. Great choices, I like the cherry tree too. So much fun! Have good weekend!

  15. I have A Baby Gem Magnolia in my narrow yard. Just love it! Zone 6b in NW Arkansas. We had some extreme cold and it survived intact.

  16. Can't wait for the plants to be planted and the arrangements to be arranged.
I used to be a sweet coffee guy, as well, but now that I am few months shy of my thirties, the bitter, the better…

  17. I’ve been wanting the Brackens Brown…concerned they need do be protected from wind. We get a-lot of cold wind here on our acreage. They are gorgeous. I did plant the Yellow butterfly Magnolias on the East side.😊

  18. We used Harrison’s to stump grind 6 stumps when we lived in Carlisle….they did a great job.

  19. That was fun. You did the right thing. I like some long sight lines in my yard and a good view of the sky. You seem to like a cozy, full look? Is that so? I enjoy your videos a lot 😊

  20. Your dog is so cute, just sitting there listening! Makes me miss my springer spaniel. 🐕 Don't know why builders have to put such huge trees so close to the house. It looks great!

  21. We removed 2 large Bradford trees from our front yard last year, I wish we had a stump grinder finish but we took them down ourselves, the stumps still put out junk and we keep them cut off hoping they will die off, I can't believe how much open space we gained and this spring I put in 2 vegetables rows with cattle panels. we do live in the country but the okra and the tomatoes looked great running perpendicular to the road. I am adding 3 more beds this next spring. along with putting down some commercial fabric under my huge willow oak to put my assorted pots and planters. It will allow water for the trees while blocking weeds and the black will disappear from the view of the road. Changes are nice when we benefit from them. I knew you would remove them now for the joy of planning for spring.

  22. I really like how the spaces have opened up. Exciting to start your new look in the spring!

  23. Magnolia flowers have some of the best fragrance in the garden! Bonus to the glossy leaves with the brown velvet underneath. Wonderful to add to fresh floral designs. So great for Christmas decor, too! I grow a Little Gem” for all those reasons. Magnolia is a great choice to replace the Spruce. Have you considered a Weeping Cherry for your other replacement? I grew a “Snow Fountain” at my old house and it was the most beautiful of all my trees in bloom. I loved the coffee intro to your video. That looks like a pretty fancy coffee machine in your kitchen!

  24. Oh my I loved that spruce it was gorgeous it’s your choice but it takes so long to get that growth of a tree… sorry I hate magnolias especially the old fashion southern magnolia I finally got rid of such very old magnolias because the leaf litter was constant… Good luck Matt

  25. I miss living in the south also. My Camellia's were so beautiful and very large! Seeing all that color during the winter was really nice! I also had a pine tree die this year so I'm looking for a Nellie Stevens Holly to plant in its place. Probably have to order from someone. Have a great weekend! 😊

  26. Try cinnamon in your coffee! It adds a bit of sweetness and is healthful too. I am so thankful that I tried it
