  1. Thanks Mathew. Unless you plan on moving back down south you need to buy yourself some long johns. 🍁🍂🍁💚🙃

  2. I love fall clean up making everything neat & uniformed. It helps me dream on next Spring’s planting ideas 💡

  3. Matthew, as soon as it warms up a bit more (our temp is 50°F) I need to go outside to do more of my fall cleanup. Have a great weekend! ~Margie🤗💐🐝🦋

  4. I intentionally planted the green creeping jenny, as I love the yellow flowers against the green leaves. It can't hold its own against creeping charlie which is a rampant weed here.

For me, creeping jenny has stayed out of the grass. What I have invading the grass is ajuga. I did not plant that, it hitchhiked here via hidden roots from my previous house. For several years after it showed up, it stayed in a less cultivated spot, not doing much and I ignored it. BIG mistake. Suddenly it is all over that area and the adjacent one and way out into the grass. Its recent advance moved it 5 feet across a planting bed AND 3 feet out into the lawn in one year.

A perfect example of things that sleep, creep and then LEAP.

  5. I have bought so many wire cloches to protect young plants, but it's worth it to get them started. As to ajuga, it does spread and will take over but it's also pretty easy to pull up. I only put it where I can keep an eye on it.

  6. I just love fall cleanup. I for once am on top of things this year and I am done just need to plant some bulbs. It was 76 today and this coming week we are to have some nice days so I hope all the bulbs will be planted then I am done for this season!! Love watching this video!!

  7. Hey Matthew! What variety is your juniper that you mentioned has doubled in size? I’m in need of some privacy landscaping along our fence in the backyard and been researching some junipers.

  8. Yes, doing a bit of fall cleanup can help a lot when it comes to spreading out the work esp as spring can be such a busy time. Even as a northerner, I always try to take advantage of the nice days…working with numb fingers is no fun!

  9. Hi Matthew! You really got a lot done, and it looks nice and neat. I love ajuga, but grow mine in pots. That little grass with the fall colors is really pretty. I'm a big fan of the purple fountain grass, but it is only an annual here, zone 7a. I wish they would improve it to a perennial, or I'd like to find one that is similar. Thank you so much for sharing!

  10. I dug up my Dahlias today. They have hollow stems, so I am curious how you can or could over winter them?

  11. Thanks for the tip about the perennial hibiscus. I'm going to give it a try.
I lived in northwest Ohio for 17 years and thought I would FREEZE! I'm from NC.

  12. I love your channel and garden! I always feel so sorry that you don’t have the “ Southerners Southern garden “ to live in. I live and garden in zone 8b south Ga. near Vidalia where the famous onions are grown. It’s very rural with few garden centers. Thank you for turning me on to Great Garden Plants mail order! It’s like Christmas every delivery! I can get all sorts of PW plants that I would never find unless I drove 5 hours to Atlanta. So far the plants from them have been small quarts, but very healthy and ready to grow. They send me emails with discounts on plants and somehow a box arrives the next week! LOL. I appreciate all your opinions and advice on gardening because I see how meticulous you are. Happy Fall Y’all
