Inspired by his connections with neighbors after planting swiss chard in his front yard, John VanDeusen Edwards imagined replacing all lawns on his block with front yard gardens where neighbors could share the harvest and connect.

John VanDeusen Edwards is the founder of the Food is Free Project. In January of 2012, The Food is Free Project hosted a launch party to share the idea with the community and within 5 weeks you were in the minority on Joe Sayers Avenue if you didn’t host a Food is Free garden. After open-sourcing the idea, over 200 cities around the world have joined the movement to start Food is Free Projects of their own and plant true seeds of change.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
