If you want a step-by-step guide for creating a recycled soda bottle drip water irrigation system, check out our instructional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq0HoQiINrk
This video doesn’t actually show much of the making process itself. Basically we just put an X in the water bottle cap with a box cutter to let water come out slowly. But here’s some much better options for building a drip water irrigation system (click show more to view):
Use a screw top water bottle of your own (like the one in this video) with one of these easy-drip caps (4 pack):

Pretty automatic glass watering drip globes (2 pack):

15 pack of self-feeding watering spikes with tubes:

If you have a watering hose you can hook it up to a drip water irrigation system for auto-watering your plants:

Surprisingly cheap drip water irrigation kit:

Using recycled plastic water bottles, Arlen makes a drip water irrigation system for some of our plants in preparation for a long weekend trip. Will they work? Stay tuned to find out. (You can watch the follow up video here: https://youtu.be/igD6uPQHQGk?t=1m53s)

It works pretty well for our garden. Good luck!
Hi PAtio GArdner,
have you ever tried hydroponics or even aquaponics on your patio… Nice place btw.
Regards, Sander
We haven't tried it yet, but would be interested in trying it in the future.
The patio is I think ideal. Sunlight, cover (because water from outside the system is a no no) and green thumbed residents obviously… Have a go…Maybe a so called Dutch bucket system would be a good place to start… have search here on youtube for the bucket based systems…highly doable and compatible with what is already there on the patio… Regards, Sander
Oh, so here's the "how-to" part!
Your patio is GORGEOUS!
Theres these little plastic things called Drip Emitters. They can drip water out of a hose as low as 1/2 gallon per hour. That plus a garden hose timer would water your garden for however long while your gone. I think ill try that for my tomatos this year, im lazy and forget to water them
Brilliante!
wont it over water the plastic container???
Nice idea! if you looking for some new garden pots look on rattanart.eu for innovative new stuff 🙂
I remember the first year I tried this method I missed a major point and left the bottle cap off during the experiment so the water quickly drained and I thought it was just another goofy idea.
Now I know my mistake and will be using this method with my tomatoes, right in the vegetable garden.
I hope it works well for you!
How to…. look at the completed project w/out explaining what was done
ya man :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
It's basically a hole in the cap and a few air holes at the top to keep flowing, once the soil is saturated it won't drip as the damp soil will prevent that
4 inches of wood chips and you never have to water(drip) again 🙂
Retarded video it didnt show anything but the plants what a waste of time
I got more info from the comments lol
Hi thanks to see your video, a balcony garden I suppose, well I have same in Egypt, tendering them at least an hour everyday. The aubergines you have with fruit shown i gladly wait for my aubergines to have one. But aphids always attack them, I spray detergent soap and clean them well, put small fertilizer, hope it will grow like your plants here.
This video should be named "garden after using the drip water irrigation"
Because this video doesn't really teach.
We need more information about the holes in the cap and how you did it. Can you make another video demonstrating (1) where you put the holes, (2) how large the holes should be, (3) how many holes there should be, (4) what tool(s) you used to achieve the holes. Thank you.
You should link the results video in the description! (Container Gardening Season 2 – Week 24: Back from Vacation)
Great video. I'm making a free watering system video myself in a few months. I've subscribed to your channel and I look forward to following you on Youtube. Thanks for sharing.
I really liked your video about how to make a drip water irrigation system. I've subscribe to your channel. Thanks for sharing.
U should link the update video in the about section or u didn't make one?
that didnt show me how to do a drip anything
not really helpful, doesn't show one how to make it.
Did I miss the part on how to make it? Useless video
i agree useless video
That's great idea. Thank you for sharing I will do it for my garden.
Would have been great if you showed the holes in the bottom of the bottom. Geesh.
Confused on how to make this really people? Use your brain.
wow i love your balcony ♥ ♥ ♥
Water finish quickly in half hr…I need one week
I thought I was going to learn how to make it.
Crap! showcasing. No instruction at all.
That is simply. Going to over water the plant for the first 3 days. Then go dry
SELFISH VIDEO. How do you put the holes in i t. Man please!
Tom Buchanan is from there lol
Did not work for me.
I made 5 bottles.
3 pinholes in each cap
Filled with water placed cap side down in my planters
Gone for 5 days.
On my return.
4 bottles were full
And only one bottle was 1/2
Empty..
What the heck?
Exactly stupid no instructions
Should I still water my tomato if I irrigated them?
I must have blinked while watching your video and missed the part where you said How to make a diy water irrigation system.
Just as well I found it in another video…. as you did too 🤣
I think it drips continuously not just when the soil gets dry.
You forgot to instruct us from start to end!!
That's not "how to"!? You don't show how you do it.
Hole in the cap? Big small? Or hole in the actual bottle?
