Things are Growing radishes, kale, cucumbers, squash, onions, sungold tomatoes, 100’s tomatoes and more, having some headaches, but those can be fixed. Growing in Free Cardboard Boxes, growing food. Boxes are free and best of all when they break down and turn into Compost, you will end up with Great soil next growing season with soil you made. Growing in cardboard boxes, totes and in the ground, food of all kinds.
From what I can find, Corrugated boxes are printed with an Environmentally friendly type ink, but I would not compost other types of food boxes like cereal boxes, cookie boxes, cake mix boxes and so forth, as those inks are made to last lots of handling, look showy and are shiny and are ‘iffy”.
This is TULLE that Great Fabric SO CHEAP and last all year outside here, here is an aff. link to check out, many colors, I usually get one of the greens, but any color will work great: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575376117&toolid=10001&campid=5338267736&customid=&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FTulle-Fabric-Bolt-54-X40yds-Wedding-Bridal-Party-Favor-Decoration-Tutu-Craft%2F381670793265%3Fvar%3D650737116165

I just ordered some tulle
I am keeping a pesky squirrel out of my bird feeder by sprinkling the seed with cayenne pepper. It does not hurt the birds OR the squirrel, but it is hot to that little mammal and he HATES IT!! Maybe try that to keep him away from your plant.
My "plier" stapler came today… wish me luck tomorrow to make my covers… it was a MUCH smaller device than I had planned… we shall see!
I really love your attitude in lifeโฆ..lovely
I set up some family dollar plastic totes and some dollar tree totes today , put seeds in ๐คhope I get some germination . I used wood chip in the bottom then grass and weed clippings shredded paper and some potting soil . Hope the worms find them . I put Roma , cherry tomatoes, jalapeรฑos, bellman banana peppers , squash and cucumbers. Getting my tulle tomorrow so hopefully if and when they sprout ๐ฑ Iโve got it covered. Itโs late I know but Iโm in central Texas so Iโll still get something, if they sprout .
Do you know where I can purchase some walking onions by chance? Having a hard time finding perennial onions to get anywhere. NE KS my location.
How about zucchini recipes?
I got dollar store fly swatters to hold up tuille.
I bought dollar store camping skewers (They are really long) and glued some cheap dollar store pom poms to the top to hold up the tulle.
Show us how to do the toile.
Found two 12-18 gal black totes at Costco yesterday. They have a 5 on the bottom. That's food safe, right? Hope to set up tomorrow. Thanks, Robbie.
Thank you, Robbie for answering my question about the Sugar Babys! This is my first time growing them and doing them in containers. I'm excited! My plants will be starting to go outside in the next two weeks depending on the night time temperatures. I'm near Chicago.
I have lots of bamboo growing in our front yard. I am planning to cut a bunch down anyways ๐คช . So I will be using some for plants to climb, and others are for holding tulle up.
I wish I could grow squash. It's one of my fav veg and they grow awesome here in Mississippi, but the squash bugs wipe them out faster than I can keep up. I'm going to skip them for a few seasons and see if it helps.
I did start some potatoes in boxes. I'm going to try putting a dinner plate or bowl inside the boxes or grow bags just to hold some extra moisture. It's all experimental this year with a huge garden in multiple areas around my house.
Hi Robbie question when you plant in a cardboard did you compost in place by adding a few kitchen scraps in the box?
Maybe you can just the tulle as more of a fence and not drape it over the plants, I wonder if the squirrel will try to jump over the tulle?
Oh Robbie, if only squirrels were my problem. Here in Durban South Africa I have vervet monkeys trying to eat my veggies. I have had to get my husband to make wire cages with very fine wire as they can get their long skinny arms through. Tulle? No chance, they even tore shade cloth.
Just started with two boxes. Fingers crossed! Also starting the process of creating my own rich compost in a tub.
Inspired by your video I have planted 2 boxes. Both boxes are approximately 22 inches by 22 inches by 18 inches. I have planted pumpkin and onions and both are doing fine.I am also filling everything with homemade compost as per your videos.I am growing straight in the boxes and they are growing fine. Plus the boxes are doing just great.I am so pleased with the way everything is growing as I have never planted a garden before. Thank you so much for your brilliant videos๐๐๐๐ฑ๐ฟ
an old man here… but gonna try veggies with my grandkids…just found your channel which is ripe with great ideas and tips…your narrative is fun and engaging…thanks so much
My bucket garden was a failure 2 years ago. I moved last summer. I am trying again in totes this year. I watch everything you post and hope to learn enough to harvest something this year.
I enjoy these videos so much! I would love some great ideas on building a greenhouse
What is the smallest size tote you would recommend for most garden items? Love your videos.
I have started raised beds about a month ago I I used the lasagna layering but I noticed that I have black tiny bugs in the soil that look like tiny fleas. What can I do to get rid of them?? Great videos thank you for sharing the box method.
Mom was mad I trimmed and cleaned porch.
Can you do a video for staking/trellising in totes? I grow on a concrete porch and Iโm kind of lost for trellising stuff. My peppers are usually okay and can top a tomato but I assume cucumbers, zucchini and eggplant will need support? Theyโre all new for me this season.
I have a couple of questions: I just encountered a small possum this evening in my urban garden. From what I see they are more help than a problem (eating snails, slugs, small rodents etc). But they will munch garden produce like tomatoes. Have you experience with this? Will the tulle wraps stop a possum? Also I heard today about LA being restricted to watering 1 time a week. And I wonder how you are going to manage after June.
Your garden is impressive! I am so happy to find your channel! Your videos are visually appealing and informative. Iโm gardening for my 3rd year and I am so thankful to learn from knowledgeable YouTube gardeners like you. Thank you for sharing your passion, tips and tricks with us. I started making garden update videos on my channel. I just need to get better at filming outside. itโs very challenging in the bright sun. Plus I get dirt all over my camera/phone!! I hope we can learn more from each other and that we both have fantastic harvests!
Robbie love your channel . I live in Toledo Oh I had a brother that was in a wheelchair and gardened on his huge sun deck useing structure similar to Gary but at a height ideal for him to get to it in his wheel chair he used totes also but would drill a 1 inch hole about 2and a half inches up towards one corner in the front and attach a PVC elbow aimed downward in the drain hole. It was sealed so if you wanted to turn the elbow upward to allow more water to collect in the bottom you could. He then would fill the bottom of the tote to just above the drain hole with drive way stone which has some lime in it naturally then on top of the stone he would use weed cloth and a stone around the edges to keep it from shifting . He would take a piece of 2 in PVC and put it in the tote in the opposite side corner in the back all the way down to the bottom in the stone . He would have it so his hose fit in it and he watered useing it just till you see water dripping out of the drain hole . He would add his compost then his soil mixture and worms (can purchase night crawlers at fishing bait shops or we would pick them at night . He collected rain water off the roof of his house into a rain barrel but he also attached an eve to his structure that the totes would drain into and then it would funnel into a 30 gallon drum this he would add his cow and rabbit manure to and make what he called compost poo tea . He never used this directly on the plants but would use a watering can and apply it on the soil around the plants at the outer edge by the outer of root system he would always water this down depending on how strong it was so not to burn the plants . He grew his potatoes in old tires so instead of hilling you just add another tire and more straw and soil. To harvest you just unstack them .. picked up my first chair and tote someone was tossing in the garbage I call them my curbside treasures lol cant wait to start planting . Again love your channel ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฅ๐ฅฆ๐ฅฆ๐ฅฆ๐ถ๐
Robbie love your ideas for toole and plastic on the arched tote lids for bugs and mini green house . Up in my area we used to make news paper hats to cover the plants on nights we had frost and cooler temperatures put them over the plants drop little soil on the bottom of the hat to hold it in place or paper bags on the larger plants. Paper is a good insulator and keeps frost off and when their no longer needed just compost them …
I LOVE UR CHANNEL!!!!!
Hole or no holes in cardboard boxes?
Ty Robbie ๐ love all your great ideas. I started my container garden this year but my leaves are turning yellow ๐ I even put more potting soil on my lasagna compost. I even tried to companion veggies. My egg plant has bugs. Gee lots of things to know about veggie gardens! God bless you <><
