It is YOUR yard. Screw anyone that doesn't like it. When they start paying your bills, then and only then do their opinions count. People that mind, don't matter, people who matter, don't mind.
I am EXTREMELY pleased with the cardboard method I used last year.
Plant a few tomatoes. Taters are cheap, tomatoes are expensive. The stacked tire method will NOT work. There is a scientific reason.
