Every spring you can double the amount of Daylilies you have in your yard by dividing or splitting them. It’s a simple way to get free plants.

Splitting a daylily is easy. You just have to dig up the plant, cut it in half and then replant the two halves. You can cut the plant using a saw, a machete or even your shovel.

When you replant the two halves, you should add some good quality compost or composted manure and also some organic fertilizer to make sure your plants get off to a good start.

Early spring when the daylily just begins poking through the ground is the best time to split a daylily. You don’t want the plant to get too big or for the weather to get two hot because this will make it tougher for the plant to get established.
