I live in Socal and planting salad greens in September/October can be risky with random heat waves lol. I just grow them on a window indoors now. I can grow tomatoes almost all year long at least.
Two good boys. Can't go wrong with these awesome facts. Excited & getting my seeds started, Zone 6B!
Yep, yep, yep 😊 I've just planted last week all same veggies in 8b Coastal SC except for the Broccoli Rob, didn't know about that one, and haven't tried leeks yet. I've also planted baby Choi, pak Choi and cauliflower. Thank you for another great video full of info I feel like I'm on right track.
How do you keep track of all the different tasks you have to do? From planting seeds to pruning fruit trees?
Thanks! This is great info. I'm in the southern suburbs of Atlanta. I think we only had six or eight freezes last winter and only one or two down into the low twenties. I'm planting! I don't care for cilantro but I would like to grow some for Coriander seed. Will they bloom in cold weather, or should I wait until next spring for that?
Nice one! I'm growing most of the plants you are suggesting.🙂 I used the shade cloth like you suggested…my cauliflower and broccoli are a foot+ tall know.🥦
Cute Dale! 💕 Who made his sweet quilt?
Up here in Raleigh and this is my first actual season growing more than just a few containers, it has been fun learning the things I planted too early and seeing many on this list that I can still plant now to replace the ones I killed. I keep a few trays with things like cabbage and broccoli ready for transplant should I lose anything and the space becomes available. Fingers crossed we avoid any early frosts this year
Wow! So THAT's why my Parsley overwinters so well! I'm in Hartsville, SC (near Florence) and have you thought about looking at Lemon Balm? My Lemon Balm has survived in a pot for 3 or 4 years. It's delicious in a hot tea… I also use it in chicken stock and also on salmon. My chives in the same pot; Same. Not sure if they're seeding or what but I can take any of them all season and use them even after cutting off the dead from lack of water in the hit/die summer! Thanks for the tip on these! I'm keen to try dill this fall since I usually get them in spring for the "butterfly babies" and I also use LOTS of dill [again, chicken stock, soup, salmon, etc.] You are AWESOME! xoxo
Dale is so adorable in his blankie and Snoopy outfit!!
Awesomeness Thank you ❤️🥳. I've got Kale, bok choy, cabbage, celery, carrots, beets, and onions going. Keep them coming Woot Woot 🙌🏽 🙏🏽🏆
Think I'm going to try some of these this year. Didn't we have a cold front come in from the north west when Ian came through?
Did I miss something or did you not mention turnips?
Are there any of those that would do badly in containers?
Millenial gardener that grew up on a farm (South Carolina). There are three types of broccoli that you can plant right now that overwinter and will not head until the spring: Purple Sprouting Broccoli, and Perenniel (you heard me right) 9 star broccoli. 9 star is the most insane looking broccoli aside from Romanesco, which will also not head until it freezes (heads up, haha). I just started some seeds of an F1 purple sprouting broccoli called Burgundy. Planting them out in the field in about 10 days. Purple broccoli is a floret broccoli that will just keep going and going and going. Recommended for the market gardeners out there.
How long can you leave carrots in the ground? I planted some last Spring and I have not eaten all of them yet. Will they keep growing?
A video I would be interested in seeing is what you do with all of your produce. Example: do you freeze, dehydrate, or just freshly use all of your herbs? Do you can, water bath, or freeze dry any of your veggies? I’m so impressed with your knowledge. I’m new to gardening, so I’ll take all the tips & tricks you offer.
So dear, thanks for the encouragement! The cool air just means it's time to get going on 😎 COOL CROPS🌱🧄🥦🥬🥕
Thanks for the info👍
When are you harvesting your sweet potato
i’m newish to this channel, and i love it. could someone please tell me what zone he is in south carolina? thanks. 🙂
Thanks for the update. I use cilantro in my wild blueberry smoothie from the Medical Medium & didn't realize I could still grow it. I also like dill with my salad greens.
where can you buy seeds this time of year.
Arugula here I come!
I feel like my romain and buttercrunch both keep bolting on me here in Georgia. hoping for better luck with the cooler weather coming in. I'm still picking tomatoes daily from my s.s. 100's.
This was very helpful. This is my first time planting late summer/fall. This is only my second summer here (South Jersey, 7a). It was very hot and many of my summer plantings suffered. So I decided to try some cooler weather plants.
I was so glad to see that the plants I decided to try are some on your list of 15. I'm growing broccoli, broccoli rabe, chard, spinach, lettuce (romaine and leaf), carrots, radish and herbs: dill, cilantro and parsley.
I didn't think to about successive plantings. So, I am going to try to resow a couple of them.
Love your videos!
Thanks. 😊
Hello! Great vegetables for planting in the fall. Now is the best time. Thank you for the interesting video. I wish you a good harvest👍🌻🐦
Excellent and helpful video! Do you buy new seed packets each season? Can you save leftover seeds? How many years can one packet of seeds be stored? And where to store them?
Thank you so much for the info! I didn't know I could still plant in Oct. I'm so excited!!
Very informative, thank you.
Which of these can survive frost/freeze in smaller containers if covered by mesh fabric or sheet on hard freezes? I sadly don't have in ground space.
Very helpful- thank you. I’m in Southern California but we had a horrible spring/summer harvest. We’re feeling discouraged but this video gives me a little hope & encouragement to go outside & try some new things. Thanks !
Dale looks mad in this one!
