Getting started can be a bit overwhelming and even seem a bit expensive. I am sharing the things I use in my garden. Some aren’t super economical, but some are! Come along with me.

For the last decade I have built up my soil by covering my garden every fall with cardboard then mulching with fall leaves. I am also an urban gardener and both of these resources I can collect curbside from my neighbors for free. By spring time the cardboard has softened and I just plant right through it to the soil underneath. The next fall I chop and drop my spent plants and again sheet mulch with cardboard and cover it with fall leaves. By covering every fall with cardboard the plants and any unbroken down leaves from last year turned into soil by the spring. Worms absolutely love the cardboard and they also add fertility to the soil. This form of no dig garden does not require topping your cardboard with compost or soil. All the soil I’ve needed has been created underneath the cardboard. My yard is literally a foot higher than my neighbors on either side. I started this form of garden by placing the cardboard straight over the grass. I lay down cardboard annually because persistent weeds will eventually come up through the mulch.
Your garden looks amazing. The grow bags are a great way to garden in any space and they are affordable. I invested in a few bags in different sizes and they are worth it.
Nice simple vid. Gardening does not have to be expensive or difficult and you hinted on that several times. I hope more people are encouraged by this. Happy gardening!
Don't even buy Solo cups! The next time you go to a friend's BBQ or a kid's birthday party collect the used cups and save them from the land fill for your gardening needs. Another great idea I use is to cut the bottoms out of gallon milk cartons or the large juice or lemonade juice containers and use them as mini green houses on early spring seedlings planted out in the garden. They also work great to protect those tiny seedlings from damage as the sides are too slippery for earwigs or rolly pollys to climb up! Leave the lips off so any built up heat can escape.
Thanks good information
Yo Asia , can I get your email? I want to donate some really nice raised beds for you.
Thank you for what you do.
Ms Asia, you are so inspiring for my urban garden journey. I sometimes worry that I don’t have enough space for what I want to grow. Then I see you’re use of grow bags and realize that I have unused space. Thank you for that! I’m practicing for future full blown homestead life on at least 5 acres, but you’re giving my practice phase the life it deserves.
Asia, love your energy and really enjoy your videos! They are super informative to me as a relatively new gardener! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and love for gardening 💕🥦🥬🍆🌶🥒
Great job on your garden. I'm a frugal gardener myself. I use mostly grow bags as well in my garden. I live in Florida zone 9b. I have been scouting thrift stores for unique gardening containers just to bring some garden decor into my gardening space. I don't have a raised bed yet, all of my plants are in grow bags or cool looking pots that I have found at thrift stores. I love to see how other people's garden spaces look and you are right gardening does not have to be expensive. You may spend a little starting out but if you know someone with a garden you can swap starter plants, seeds etc. I love spending time in my garden everyday. Happy gardening!
I love the grow bags. I have a bunch of them too. I even took one of those long storage containers that are for storing things under your bed and stuff (they are like 3-4 feet long, 2 ft wide and 6-7 in deep) and I drilled holes in the bottom. I sat it on a table and planted onions in it. Just an experiment to see how they do. It is hard for me to get down to the ground. So I need things higher up lol.
🌼🌺🌸🌷Wow, Your garden looks amazing! I can’t wait till to watch your updates to see how it grows. I’m a YouTube gardener too but I’m just learning as I grow. I am happy I found your channel it has so much to offer. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our garden channels! Happy Planting!
Asia, I am thinking next season I will use gardening bags to grow veggies. I noticed you have a lot of hay. How does it benefit your garden? Also Lowes is a great place for markdown plants, at least in my area of N.California. I bring them home and nurse them back to health. OMG I put lights in my garden this year and its spectacular at night. Your videos are great.!!!!
If you are ever looking for video ideas please show us the inside of your compost bin. Thanks. Also to save money I reuse as many food containers as possible and other household plastics. I wanted a greenhouse, so I built it myself from wood because I got tired of buying those temporary greenhouses. I built it with no experience. Also June and July I visit garden centers for discounts. Last year I bought over 30 bags of soil for a $1 to save for this year. Doing chip drop for the first time and also I visit hydroponic stores for pots and soil amendments, I find it’s cheaper.
Your garden is looking gorgeous!! Sounds.like the chickens are.moody..
Bless your growing season this year!!
Great options! One thing I do is save all my containers like cottage cheese containers and whatnot and use them as plant pots. I drill holes in them, of course. Back when women wore pantyhose (!) it was customary to recycle your hose with runs in them into ties for tying up tomato plants. It works really well because it's soft and stretchy. I did something similar by cutting old underwear into strips. Happy gardening!
You have really made good use of your space. It looks really productive.
Thank you Asia! I will not look for any string again knowing my daughter has a box of yarn she no longer wants! She is currently making a cute top! She loves to crochet! Great video!
Hello, the way you used your space is amazing, your garden looks great. I have just discovered your Channel, New member here. Hello from Uganda.

Hey Asia…just discovered your channel! Sometimes the algorithm actually works to our advantage 😉. I enjoyed this video a lot. I love seeing what other folks are doing in their spaces. Looking forward to devouring your other videos now…but first…garden 🌱💚
Great tips and info. thank you!
SHALOM, HELLO! YOUR GARDEN LOOKS AMAZING….I USE TOTES AND GROW BAGS BUT MOSTLY TOTES AND CONTAINERS. THIS IS MY 2ND YEAR GARDENING AND I LOVE IT. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT THIS FALL WILL LOOK LIKE AND HOW I WILL BE UTILIZING THE LEAVES AND MY LEAF BLOWER WITH HAVING TOTES AND CONTAINERS TO CLEAN OUT WHEN THOSE LEAVES START FALLING LOL
I use eggshell containers to start seeds and also do winter sowing in milk jugs, food containers and other plastic containers that just get thrown away. The plastic plant containers can be used as cloches to protect small plants in early spring or fall from frost. I'm in Zone 5B in Illinois. I'm experimenting with cold frames made out of plastic window well covers and storm windows. And I ve been canibalizing my paper face masks for the stretchy string and wire bands – they make great plant ties and supports. I cut up the rest of the mask so it will hopefully degrade faster.
Oh how I love to "visit" other people's gardens – and you have done a wonderful job with yours. Congratulations!
I'm English so I've experienced a very wet cold climate to a very hot (does get cold in winter) arid climate where I now live and I have to admit the latter is a struggle.
Robbie and Garry Gardening Easy in California is another great channel to visit. They both grow amazing produce and she likes to do it on the cheap – she wouldn't throw that cracked tote away (the one collecting water) she'd repurpose it somehow : ) Different climate maybe but she has some great ideas. Worth a look.
I too am a great fan of no dig gardening isn't it just great? Have you seen Charles Dowding's smallholding in UK? Another totally different scenario but hey there's always something to learn from others isn't there?
I'd so love to have a look at your chicken coop if that's possible.
I've just subscribed. Love from South Australia X
I love getting free stuff for my garden!! I used to walk up the shops and back before I got my car!! Found half a wine barrel on the side of the road with wheels on the bottom!! It was only 500 metres from home!! But it was in pretty good condition!! I couldn't push it on the sidewalk…so I had too push it on the road!! It was heavy and exhausting…motorists passed me by honking their horns while I was pushing it home!! But I got it home after a 20 minute workout!! Half a wine barrel in the shops cost $150 these days!! It now has a lemon tree in it!! It's in its 4th year and I've already grown some lemons off it!! Family thought it was great!! LOL!!
💕
Hi, I purchased 6-2x8x8 for about $60 and had them cut 4 to make 2x6x8(it was cheaper) along with 4 garden blocks. I made a [______] shaped bed. I used the blocks in the back and used 4 3" screws I already had to put the ones in the front together, liked it so much I did another one, it gave alot of gardening space. Two years ago I purchased a 4wx4l dog kennel with a tarp like roof for $98, my dog didn't like it so I'm using some winter hardware plastic sheets I got on clearance to make a mini greenhouse. Most of my pots I puchase on clearance at one of the big box stores, I just stay looking out for clearance. By the way that kennel went up to about $200 before that year ended. I had intended to purchase another since you can link and extend the panels but my procrastination caused me miss a good deal. If you see any good deals out there that you really want, I suggest you go ahead and get them or they may get snatched up or be higher. Praying we all have successful gardens this year and every year. Happy planting💕
Garden looks beautiful! I single stem my tomatoes so I go to Menards and buy 1×2 inch fur strips for 2 or 3 dollars. They last for years. The trellises you have might get a little rusty but will last for decades and you can paint over them to hide the rust. great investment

I like the cinder block idea. They are sturdy, they won’t rot out like wood, they last a lifetime, and even if you have to buy them they are cheap. The grow bags are nice too. I have some of those, they work well.
