This design is focused on texture of foliage and flowers. It is the second of 8 “themed” gardens on our farm that we’re using to show both a wide variety of plants, but also different design considerations: color, texture, symmetry, nature, patio, structure, fragrance and movement. The videos can be taken in any order (or stand-alone) but the first video I made for this series is linked here: https://youtu.be/8YUauVpGgPM

  1. Did you see garden design by famous Piet Oudolf? He uses the movement of plants in the wind too and it looks amazing.

  2. This looks like somethgin that could overlap with a garden design I'm working on for a touch garden. The idea is to plant things for people who can't see or are autstic and I'm looking for plants that would have nice textures to the touch. I'm down in Florida zone 10a, if you have any suggestions.

  3. Drone footage is great Jason! Thanks for this video, also I'm adding that Little Angel to my list! I almost bought it because it's beautiful but wasn't sure if it was vigorous in its growth habit.

  4. Love the look of the Sanguisorba Little Angel but wondered if it seeds and can compromise the original variagation?

  5. The garden centers must love it when you post videos. I see something you highlight and I'm out there trying to find one.

I'm running out of space Jason !😛😝😝

  6. Looks nice. I like your plant choices. We had Tiger Eyes for a bit. But it sent roots all over and we had plants popping up everywhere. I ended up taking it out. How will you control that in this small garden?

  7. Very nice, love the texure! Looking forward to see how they mature in the landscape!🤗

  8. Looking good Jason.👌
I'm impressed with the small amount of shock the plants are showing.
I know there are differing opinions when transplanting about fluffing the roots, shaking the root ball to open up the base of the plant, and so many others, but I prefer to leave well enough alone and carefully transfer each plant from its pot to the place where it will be permanently rooted without disturbing the roots if at all possible.
Seems to me the least amount of trauma the plant experiences allows the plant to settle into it's new space quicker with less reaction and most of the time almost none at all.
However, I do surround the root base with a 50/50 potting mix and sand combination to ensure a nutrient rich staring point for the plant to start out in. I will begin mixing the remaining soil from the hole with some of the potting mixture to encourage the more energetic roots to reach and naturally expand the base of the plant.
I find this process to be the least intrusive for most plants unless they are already stressed and need additional help.
I'm guessing you did something similar or did you just plant them directly into the soil?

  9. NICE! It will be so interesting to see how all those Theme Gardens will develope!
I think, the Texture garden is missing a "really big leaves" plant. Going a bit crazy here but maybe a rhubarb 😉🙃

  10. Look forward to see how it develops. I liked that purple one. Would have one too. Looks good Jason

  11. Jason, thanks for this excellent video. I really enjoy your videos, they are always instructional and entertaining. You sure are a master gardener!

  12. Great seeing the progress at F.V.R.F !! I must say you're looking a touch slimmer lately Jason. 👌. Looking forward to seeing how it completes.

  13. Good morning. Have you ever heard of Christia vespertilionis? I think they could add interesting feature to your garden, that if they are suitable in your four seasons climate. They look like butterfly, come in green, purple and veriegated green & purple.

  14. How lovely! Great choice of plants 🪴 I may well pinch some of your ideas for myself for next year's garden. Thanks so much for the post. 👍
