Love your videos. The split screen on this one drove me a little crazy. 😉
Robbie and Gary both give us tips and ideas on how to create gardens on the cheap. I took a lid and made the tulle top for my seedlings I'm so proud of it. Robbie has hands of steel those lids are hard to cut, but I'm making number 2 tomorrow!
Loving all the color ! I’m going to try this on my back patio ! So 5 and 2 are good
I just bought some sterilite totes at Walmart for around 6.50 +. In TX. They only had a few of the 18 gal. You have to buy larger quantities to order on line.
Hey Robbie!🖐 I made my first high top today.🙂 It will cover my popcorn seedlings until they are a bit bigger.🙂
I get my totes at one of our thrift stores…only $1 for the ones without a lid. $3 for the ones with a lid.
I’m trying the heavy duty black totes with yellow lids. I tried the sterlite brand but they cracked in only one year. Too hot for too many days I guess. Am hoping the heavy duty last.
I'm fairly new at gardening but I have a question if anybody can help me out I bought all kinds of different grow bags round ones their cloth I have square ones 4 ft by 5 ft and various sizes are the totes does anybody know better than the grow bags
Honey , everything is going up . EVERYTHING ! We have custodial guardianship and have to file once a year with the courts showing that she is in school , up to date on immunizations , gets all medical and dental visits . She came to us after being very neglected and under nourished and the courts want to make sure she does not suffer again and believe me she does not need or want for anything . To the point , over this last year those fees went up $100 per annual filing .
I love your content. However, I'm not in love with the split screen. I couldn't watch without feeling disoriented.
Super👍👍👍👍
New Gardner here, love your channel! I just have 5 gal buckets and a few small pots. I will shop around for the totes. TFS.
Why you place buckets below totes?
I love a great way to garden on the cheap. I would caution one thing about using the totes. These are not food grade plastic and thus can leach into your plants that are producing your food. Plastic is most likely to break down and do this in the sun. That aspect has me a bit concerned. Is this something you've considered or researched? I've been trying to find a way to grow my vines-cukes, melons etc. in containers this looks interesting and you make it easy to follow. Thanks.
My Walmart is now carrying a Luxor or Luxom brand container – not Sterilite. No where does it have the little code you have taught us to check for to make of food safety.
Robbie you are Awesome! Grateful for your videos and sharing so much info. I am learning so much from this and finding more joy in gardening! 🙂

Hello Robbie from Indiana. I have never tried to plant a garden and after watching your container videos I am giving it a try. I purchased 4 of the 18 gallon totes. I started seeds indoors with my home made grow lights. If I start the totes out with layering sticks from tree branches and leaves, egg shells, etc. will I still need to add fertilizer and if so what do you recommend? Like I said this is my first time and after watching a ton of videos on seedling and transplanting them it gets really confusing. I really love your videos and I am so glad you are doing them.
I’ve been re-watching your older videos on growing in totes. I’m loving this! Excited to see what you have in store for us!! Thank you or sharing and teaching!! Blessings!!
PS. We also use old coolers/ice chests!
Good morning, Robbie. Thank you for the information. I am a container grower, and I have a hard time finding cheaper totes. I will check out your ideas. Take care
Good morning Robbie. Nora here. We,re having our cup of coffee and watching your video. Those black totes do last forever. My husband and i have had these outside on our balcony, for many years. We have started some high top totes . out on one of our balconies. We have 3 balconies. We dont garden out in the yard anymore. So our balconies are going to be full of tote gardens. That Lizard was curious. Miss Kitty was so cute grabbing the label, she,s helping out her Mommy. My husband and i have had lots of Luck finding totes at the thrift store and they gave us some for free cause they did,nt have lids. Your right about Walmart they seem so overstocked, and going for very cheap. We bought some and put them aside.Take care and be well Robbie and Gary and lil miss Adorable Kitty.
I enjoy all your videos! Thank you for all the great information!
I am reusing totes I had already to get started and am on the lookout for a few more. If you cannot find totes I have seen some folks use laundry baskets lined with mesh or trash bag as planters. They might not hold up as well but might be an alternative.
❤🦋😁
I've seen people using cardboard, wood chips etc before filling with dirt. I don't have cardboard but quite a few brown paper bags. Will that work until I can get yard clippings, etc.
Hello Robbie, bought 6 totes, going to start growing vegetables and flowers. Thank you so much 🥰❤️ for helping me and hubby. We r learning thanks to you and Gary 😊❤️. Enjoy your channel. Thank you ❤️ again , Ginny from Missouri.
Hello Robbie! I am so excited about learning to make soil and grow in containers! I am now growing cucumbers, zuccini, and baby greens, but I haven't had any luck in finding the chairs that you use. Besides the trash on trash day, do you know where I can buy them. Home Depot have a couple of brown fancier ones for $15, but would hope to find the white ones a bit cheaper.
Great video! Answered several questions I have had. As you mentioned everything has and will continue to go up, getting the best price is a good thing.
I “really” like all the different ways you are using the tote lids. There are many good gardening sites out there but I do believe yours is the best. Every video makes sense, is cost effective and and does not kill you physically to have a great garden!! Thanks so much to you and Gary for sharing all of your knowledge. It is appreciated!
You've changed my life! Thank you 😊
I bought many different sizes of totes. I’ve started my seeds and they have popped up! So cute. Now, here in Michigan it’s too cold to put outside, my dining room is my garden now..LOL… you should see my home. Totes, dirt, veggies all over the place. But I don’t care. When the weather breaks, I’ll be ready. I’m so excited!! Thank you for this idea as this old gal can’t get down in the earth anymore.
I went to the thrift store and didnt find totes, but I did find milk crates that I will"line" with cardboard and poke holes thru to hold the dirt in. I've been wanting to try potatoes ,carrots, turnips and beets and the ground I live on is so hard and doesnt drain so your tote idea is genius! I also bought some laundry baskets from Dollartree that I'll use in the same way. I have also been trying to regrow things from the grocery store like celery, romaine and green onions that I will plant in dirt. I also just read some where that you can soak dried beans and peas and grow those! So I'm going to try to sprout peas, since I havent been able to find pea seeds. I may go buy a bok Choi to cook and try to regrow that also, plus gingerroot and yams. A lot of different or unusual seeds are so expensive or you cant find the seeds for them. I have regrown cabbage as well using the root end(core). Gardening has been my"therapy" recovering from cancer,& also as a science project to see what I cant kill! Lol! Love your channel and your thrifty ways of growing! I also started saving my coffee grounds, egg shells, onion peels and the like to try to enrich my soil. I live in a mobile home park so I cant really amend their land. But I really like your idea of using the totes as you can move them without digging them up! Thank you for all of your great ideas! Was wondering if you know of a good place to find the plastic yard chairs inexpensively? I cant bend over too much because I have a hole in my stomach from my feeding tube ,that hasn't healed over quite yet. Thanks in advance!🙂🌻🌺🌹🦋
What about your plastic chairs?
Where do you buy? How inexpensive were they?
Heavy winds constantly knock things over where I live. SW desert.
thanks for the tips, I want to do this
I love these for gardening but I want to keep using them for years I hate using plastic it’s terrible for our environment that’s the only issue here.
Robbie do you also do canning? We can only grow for so long in the northeast. And feeling a bit insecure about it
