Visitors to Trenance Gardens in Newquay have been enjoying a charming new addition to the Wisteria Bridge.
A purpose‑made stick holder designed to keep the much‑loved game of Pooh sticks alive has been created to protect the plants that surround the walkway.
When Stuart Lutherborow, gardener at Trenance Gardens, noticed people snapping twigs and wisteria stems to play the classic bridge game, he decided to step in with a simple fix.
He installed a dedicated stick holder on the Wisteria Bridge and now fills it every morning with suitable sticks for families to use.
The idea has taken off so quickly that the sticks are gone by the next day, prompting plans for more stick stations at other bridges around the gardens.

Staff say the initiative is encouraging families to spend time outdoors together while helping safeguard the plants that make the gardens such a special place.
Visitors are invited to head to Wisteria Bridge, outside Trenance Heritage Cottages, pick up a stick, and challenge friends or family to see whose stick emerges first beneath the bridge – all without damaging the surrounding greenery.
