Mum sets up outdoor cinema in garden for son's team to watch England

WORLD Cup fever was in full swing as 14 boys in a Southampton youth team roared on the Three Lions after a mum converted her garden into an outdoors cinema.

Former dance and gymnastics teacher Kerry Brewer transformed her back garden in Emsworth Road, Shirley, ready for the delayed 2am kick-off.

Kerry had put the effort in for son Ronan, 14, so he and teammates could back Thomas Tuchel’s men at the Azteca as they faced Mexico.

Neighbours were on side too, Kerry said, so offered no complaints when Ronan and pals from the Testlands under-15s team roared at every England goal in the 3-2 victory.

All boys chanted “be brave Harry” as he lined up to take – and score – in the 60th minute.

Ronan said: “It was amazing, when they scored my body filled with hope.

“Me and my friends couldn’t stop cheering. And now we’re through to the quarter final against Norway we’re all buzzing… Be brave Harry!”

Kerry told the Echo: “It was absolutely amazing, I’ve lived in a flat with my children for many, many years and we’ve just got a house and garden, and my son loves football – I believe he will play for England one day.

“I decided to be a mad mum and had a cinema in the garden and had all his football team around.

“My neighbours said enjoy the game.”

She added: “My son is in love with football – we just had to do it. There was no stopping him but it was all my idea.

“It was a bit of a crazy morning with 14 teenagers – we had to get them to school and my children.

“None of them say no they didn’t want to do it – we had boxes of pizza – it was amazing.

“I’m so grateful I’m glad I could do this with my children.”

She said her son is autistic and “to see the smile on his face was phenomenal”.

“It was amazing,” she said. “It was so nice to have that support from the neighbours.

“I’m so grateful to them as well.”

Kerry’s younger children Maisie, five, and Theo, nine, were fast asleep indoors as the teenagers celebrated England’s win.

Ronan avoided an early morning school run as he is on part-time timetable but Kerry rushed the others to school, with some off to Barcelona for a school trip.
