DUNCAN, Okla. (KSWO) — The Think Ability Community Garden held its seventh annual ladybug release Friday, offering a free community event open to families and children of all ages.

Experts from Oklahoma State University were on hand to teach attendees about the life cycle of ladybugs. Ladybug-themed games and activities were also available ahead of the official release.

“Well, tonight is our 7th annual ladybug release. It’s a free community event, it’s perfect for families and kids of all ages,” Outreach Director of ThinkAbility, Stacey Weddington said. “We’re making ladybugs out of tomatoes that we harvested from the garden, we’re making ladybug cookies.”

Weddington says that the ladybugs were distributed to those in attendance before the release.

“They will immediately wake up and the kids will run into the garden and start spreading them around,” Weddington said.

The ladybugs were released onto plants throughout the garden.
