Garden City warns of City Commission email scam targeting residents

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KWCH) – Garden City officials are warning residents about scam emails that appear to come from City Commission members and request personal information to “approve” items for upcoming commission agendas.

In a Facebook post, the city said several residents reported receiving the messages. Officials also said the emails did not come from any official City of Garden City account and should be treated as fraudulent.

The city affirm it will never request personal information through unsolicited emails. Officials said legitimate correspondence will be mailed on formal city letterhead or sent through an authorized email address that includes an official City of Garden City email signature.

Residents who receive suspicious messages are urged not to click any links, reply to the sender or provide any personal information. Anyone wanting to verify information can contact the City Clerk’s Office at (620) 276-1160.
