Posted my spring overseed and leveling and some of the comments are just an insane level of arrogance and negativity.

It's not that serious!

I have the nicest lawn on the street every year. Its my hobby to keep my mind off of the stress of work.

  • "you overseeded in the spring? Its all going to die in June"
I quite literally do this every year.

  • "you didn't aerate first, waste of time."
I did. I own an aerator. But that said I've done the same many times before owning an aerator.

  • "you need to match the topsoil to the existing soil……"
    No you fucking don't.

  • 'you need to use a pre emergent in the spring or you will be overrun with weeds"
A small spray bottle with 2-4d based weed killer when you mow to spot weed keeps you ahead of it. I find no difference when using a pre emergent.

  • "you use 2-4d? Enjoy your death".
Keep it off your skin, don't breath it and be careful like using any other chemical. It evaporates entirely from the lawn in a couple of hours.

  • "you're killing the bees"
My lawn is literally the only one for miles that isn't covered in dandelions. The bees will be fine. My impact in more than minimal.

  • "scotts spreaders are the devil"
Been using them for a decade and have never encountered the problems people seem to have here.

  • "you're just creating a breeding ground for crabgrass"
    Never been a problem.

  • "doing this with cool season grass will destroy the world"
    Relax..

  • "grass lawns are awful"
    Why are you even here?

Specific instructions for fertilizers. I just hammer it with nitrogen 2 or 3 times a summer.

And some pretty rude private messages. Like let people take pride in their lawns.

I'm in a lot of gatekeepy subs with toxic members but this one surprises me.

It's not that serious. What works for me may not for you. Whatever.

You’re correct. And that’s most of what reddit is…

Your lawn looks awesome man. Enjoy a cold one and take a ton of pride in your work!

People confuse what’s easiest/simplest/lowest maintenance with what’s possible. They also take advice specific to their area and apply it broadly. Here in MD in the transition zone I could overseed in spring but I’d also have to use a lot more water through summer to keep it alive so I don’t. But I could if I needed or wanted to. I also find pre emergent keeps me weed free all year without needing post emergent sprays. But that doesn’t mean I need to apply it, I just find it easier. Nothing is one size fits all!

I’m similar. I have shitty clay soil, have never done a soil test, have never aerated, and never amended my soil. I just overseed every fall with no crazy water routine, fertilize a few times a year, and spot-treat weeds once a month with Spectracide. I’m at 90% perfect with a thick, green, weed-free lawn and that’s close enough. I have flowers, so if the bees insist on dandelions they can fuck off.

Your post got me laughing 🤣. Some people just like giving an opinion on what they consider to be the right way but forget everyone has their own way to get to the same results.

Now if you are asking for suggestions that’s one thing but seems you are doing what works for you. Keep up the good job and enjoy your stress relief.

Reddit feels like it’s not real sometimes but the unfortunate reality is when you post online there’s always going to be people who think they know better. Reality is half the schmucks in here haven’t any more of a clue than you and I – take it with a grain of salt my friend, it’s not that serious!

The boiling point of 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid) in its pure acid form is 160C at a reduced pressure of 0.4 mm Hg. At standard atmospheric pressure, the pure acid typically decomposes before it can boil.

    For accuracy.

Your lawn is for you, not for anyone on Reddit, if you enjoy it that’s all that matters. And yes, many people on Reddit seem to have no clue about the vast differences between cool season, warm season, and transition zone turfgrass care, or the fact that a healthy lawn with healthy soil will stay that way with a completely different approach vs the unmitigated disasters that usually populate this sub.

If you get tired of the abuse just stop posting about your lawn and instead enjoy it more or leave Reddit and join an actual lawn forum like TLF where the atmosphere is completely different.

  9. OP, “ It’s not that serious!” 😉

Yea Reddit is a cesspool of shitty people. Literally a place for the most extreme pieces of shit to come together.

  10. Like the people say to not water your lawn at night because of fungus. Well what about when it rains 4 hours straight at night twice a week lol

Take your own criticism and quit being lame

Dude, that shit is thicc and lush… whatever you’re doing, you’re doing it right!! F the haters. As long as you don’t have excess phosphorous runoff contributing to local algae blooms, you’re not hurting anything and you have a fantastic looking lawn! I also assume you live in an area with an abundance of natural rain, so even better!

Criss Cross is so perfect . That phone pole needs to come out . That can cause shade area that will be tough to put chemicals on evenly. . Wow your neighbors must be so jelly s/

  14. SaltySeaRobin

The bullet points you mentioned aren’t a big deal. The posts every other day stating “I accidentally sprayed my entire lawn with non-selective herbicide at 10 times the label concentration during a rainstorm, will my lawn be okay???” deserve ridicule. Blatant misuse of poison constantly featured here.

  15. Diligent_Digiridoo

Brother you need to take the internet a little less seriously.

Multiple paragraphs of coping with what the lawncare subreddit said to you is insane

  16. Reasonable_Yoghurt17

Wow I had no idea it was like that That’s pretty sad

  17. ChaZZZZahC

The killing bees part bothers me the most, like all I got around my house is grass???
I got out my way to plant shit around my garden for those striped bums, can I have some grass for myself please.

  18. If anyone here blindly listens to redditors about really any topic without doing your own research, chances are you’re get to get it wrong. Some high schooler in a basement is not any expert on anything they act like they are.

    “It’s not that serious”

“And here is a diatribe of me explaining in serious detail my feelings about this unserious thing.”

  20. Human_Mechanic_1120

Your lawn looks amazing and whatever your doing just keep doing it cause I am jealous of that lawn I am a city guy just moved into Suburbs and trying to learn how to care for lawn and yard thanks for post.

  21. No-Surprise-6997

I agree. I was reading stuff on here last year thinking “no way I can commit to all that just for a decent lawn”. I bought seed and some lawn patching type product and mine looks great. Meanwhile everyone here says “you need to aerate, seed, twist it, lock it, bop it, shit on it for it to be good”
