I had a foreign squash decide to sprout many babies in our compost pile. Of course, we needed to turn the pile and that meant disrupting them. Dug them up, and replanted them in the garden, risking them all, because I know they don't like that treatment. It was warm and sunny, they wilted, despite me watering them immediately. I must have planted 25 babies, I think (3 weeks later now) that I have only lost 3. My hope is they are Kabocha, which is my favorite squash for baking. The first year we had a garden I saved 11 babies from the compost and I had over 120 butternut squash that year, they covered a good portion of my yard! Am I up for a repeat situation this year? Time will tell! 🙂 Rain is on its way tonight and for the next 5 days, and I was able to get all my plants in the ground this evening. Only thing I have left is more seeds, a couple of roses bushes and 4 lilac bushes. Garden is looking lovely, Jess! Thanks for sharing!
It all looks so good! Thanks for sharing, Joy
It’s all just so beautiful 💗 I love being able to watch the garden grow 🪴
Oh, I so love Carolina jessamine! I discovered it growing wild along the Cedar Point Tideland Trail in North Carolina when my sister lived in Jacksonville. It was February when I was visiting, and I kept encountering fallen yellow blossoms on the trail, when I wasn’t expecting to find anything flowering. After much searching, I finally discovered the source of those flowers above my eye level. They were so beautiful to my winter-weary eyes! (I live in Michigan 🥶) Later, we visited the garden center at Lowe’s, and the plant was there in bloom, with a tag identifying it. Now, anytime I’m near the coast in the Carolinas in late winter, I look for it growing along roadsides and walking trails. You’re so fortunate to be able to grow it in your garden! I hope it grows well for you, and makes your heart as happy as mine when you see it blooming!
Jess you are such a blessing in these crazy times. I absolutely love how you guide us all to take joy in the simple things of life.
YES!!! The tangerine skies are back!
What are those gorgeous flowery shrub-bushes at the 2-7 second mark? Love 'em!
LOL "What friends?" Harlow is the cutest!!
Cabbages are such dreamy looking plants. I wish they tasted better.
Make all the Jam that you can, makes amazing presents, especially in the winter when fresh fruit is a no-go. 🥰
You could also dry & powder them. Works very well as an addition to either coffee or tea and it lasts for years. Also, reconstituted dried berries work well in cereals, oatmeal, breads, muffins, cakes, heck whatever, lol.
I am completely wooed by my garden right now. We are just waking up and planting out cool weather things right now. Another 3-4 weeks before warm weather stuff can go out. Every day something else wakes up, pokes thru the ground or blooms. It gives such joy and gratitude. Thank you for sharing your joy and helping me learn to garden and appreciate it all.
I’m 1 second into the video and feel compelled to stop and comment first. I was missing your voice of reason and hope lately so today I filled my cup with your substack writings. Thank you for sharing yourself with us! You’re a friend despite not knowing me at all. Kindred spirits!
You make my heart happy 🌸
Its amazing how I can spend all day in my garden, come in and watch this video, and get inspired all over again! I even answered you out loud, that yes, I am enjoying my garden too with a big smile on my face. Thank you for sharing your garden and your zest for all things growing Jess! You glowed!
I grew up in Belgium and a popular thing to do with red cabbages is stew them up with butter and apple slices! Very good with pork chops or sausages and mashed potatoes! Add a little mustard with it as a condiment and you will bring out the flavor of the red cabbage even more 🙂 Hope you will try it this way some time and let us know on your farmers table channel 😉
Do you can things like pie filling? Just thinking that a strawberry pie in November would be nice!
Where are them goats?❤
So beautiful!!!! I am just now working on planting summer stuff in 6b Ozarks. It's nice to see yours a bit farther along and know what mine will be like soon! Would Miah consider doing a video explaining those arbors he made? Or can you just share the plans? That is exactly what I envisioned for my Tangerine Skies to climb.
Girl how do you grow so many strawberries
