It appears a woodpecker has torn into one of the supports on the pergola in my yard trying to get to some carpenter bees. Any suggestions on what to use to fill it?
That wood is riddled with bugs otherwise it wouldn’t bother with it. A smart man would know that it is time to replace that entire beam and carefully inspect any beams it touched.

Wood filler isn’t going to do it my dude.
You gotta replace that post at minimum, but I’d probably take down the pergola entirely. I wouldn’t trust that it’s safe to be under at this point.

If a woodpecker is drilling for bugs, I think you need a new post.

Start hitting your pergola with some permetherin (that may not be spelled correctly, but it’s close) and keep it sprayed on schedule and the bees won’t be back. If that’s the worst damage on the structure then I probably wouldn’t rush to replace it.
