My five-year-old fiddle leaf fig outgrew my apartment (partially due to neglect on my part) and after over a year of procrastination, I finally chopped her up to prepare for propagation. It’s hard to see in my first photo, but the trunk section had basically begun to grow sideways and was literally tied to my plant stand using bootlaces. She would’ve fallen over without the ties. I neglected to repot and prune her properly over the years so she grew sideways and became too large to manage. She was so side and top heavy that i figured my best bet would be to propagate her and get rid of the trunk and start fresh. I’ve propagated plenty of plants over the years but never a fiddle leaf fig. I plan on using water with rooting hormone and then replanting in soil. I understand it can take several weeks to see roots form. My question is, based on the second photo here, are these cuttings too big for propagation? I was hoping to not have to start over with a puny plant. Some of the stems have hardened and become more woody as well so is that still ok for propagation or does the stem need to be softer and greener?

I’ve found fiddle leaf to be easily propped. Just make sure there are nodes under the water. Wait 6 weeks for roots to form and pot it up. You could make a lot of cuttings with this big boy.
Man this is hilarious, looks like it almost evicted you.
