SOUTH BEND — A series of free yoga classes with periodic sound baths will be offered at Unity Gardens at the LaSalle Square garden. The classes will take place at 6 p.m. Mondays from May 18 to Oct. 12.
The sessions will be held outdoors near the goat fence at 3701 Prast Blvd., weather permitting, according to a press release. In case of rain, participants will meet inside the building. Attendees are encouraged to bring a mat or towel.
The classes are led by Zana Karabatak, a certified yoga instructor. Sound baths are provided by Sarah Vervynckt. Sound bath sessions will be held May 25, June 29, July 27, Aug. 31 and Sept. 28. A potluck will be held Oct. 12.
Instructors bring diverse backgrounds
Karabatak has been teaching yoga since the summer of 2025. She was introduced to yoga in college and committed to a daily practice in 2023, which she says has helped relieve chronic neck and back pain. She describes yoga as a low-impact exercise that increases mobility while building strength and as a time to practice reflection and gratitude for the mind-body connection, according to the release.
Vervynckt is a yoga teacher and sound practitioner who focuses on creating spaces for self-study and restoration. She uses mindful movement, breath and sound to help students slow down and reconnect with their natural rhythm.
