3ish years ago I transplanted two volunteer trees into large pots; A maple and a white pine. They have successfully endured two Iowa winters outdoors. I’m currently renting and don’t want to commit them to the earth yet. I don’t have any larger pots to move them into. Should I try to bonsai these trees?
Edit: I have learned from wiser folks that I have a silver maple and a juniper/red cedar

Buy bigger pots lol. Dont plant the if you think you’ll own a home in the next few years
That sir is an eastern red cedar, not a white pine. Also, a silver maple
Looks like a juniper (probably eastern red cedar), not a white pine. The juniper will be fine in a pot for another year, two at the most, just don’t let it sit in water. Potting it up to a deeper and wider container will give it a better chance of survival and better quality of life.
The maple is going to outgrow a small pot and become top heavy and root bound. I’d try to get the maple in the ground somewhere before the next winter.
