Was planting a new crape Myrtle and dug up this root. Lived here over 23 yrs and I did not plant it. Nothing ever grew from it, I assume because area is full on direct sun 6+ hrs per day and frequent weed eating. It does appear to have a short stem on the underside where green can be seen.

Really hard to tell without the photo of the leaves tbh

  2. With no location is difficult to tell but assuming you don’t live somewhere tropical not ginger.

Ginger has distinctive leaves, but it also has a distinctive smell. Scrape off some tuber and see what is smells like.

  4. Greenbriar? Personally, hate the stuff. It’s annoying to get rid of and I had a metric ton of it when I bought my house. Some people like it, say you can eat the roots. I dunno about all that, but you might look into it.
