I've had this guy for somewhere between 1.5-2 years, and this is the most it's grown (Nov 2024 on the left, today on the right). Do they normally grow this slowly? I might be underwatering it (with my other plants, I watch for signs of thirst but this guy has gone two or three months without changing at all so I can never tell when it's actually thirsty). I have been very cautious about watering too often so it's probably every two months or so, when I feel like maybe it's been too long and don't want to push it any further. The roots are snug in the pot – it's not roomy at all. Very gritty substrate.

Watering schedules going to depend on light intensity/duration and ambient temperatures. Watering every two or three months (during winter) is just fine, during spring/summer that’s pretty dry….for what it’s worth the plant shown looks grown well 👍
Yeah they’re pretty slow growers.
I like very much how it grew. Yes, they’re quite slow, and a slow growing is a guarantee of healthy growing, in most of cacti. In the photo my oldest asterias, approx. 15yo:

Mine are all outside and get watered frequently. They are slow growers, but mine have at least tripled in size from when I got them a few years ago.
Yes slow but not glacial you can see from season to season, unlike a few!
