My tree has been leaking sap. There seems to be a plug of crystalized sap at the top. Could this be from a woodpecker or some other animal? Any suggestions on how serious it is?

Completely uneducated opinion but. Looks like an injury! Perhaps a woodpecker or a rusty nail got the tree weeping.

I have a tree that suffered from what they call a frost crack or frost rupture. That doesn’t look as bad as mine, if that’s what it is. Kinda looks similar.
