There are two pines right next to each other and in all respects seem nearly identical. However they have different coloration to their pollen cones. Does that indicate diff species or something else?
Maybe they seem nearly identical except for the cone color Just from distance… The best way to understand if two pine trees are different species without having female cones, is to look closely at leaves: you should check at least if there are differences in
A) the number of leaves per cluster
B) the lenght range of leaves
C) the width range of leaves
Or maybe they Simply have a shift in phenology even If from the same species
