Join the Lake County Master Gardeners at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a virtual presentation with internationally recognized garden educator and author Robert Pavlis. He will share practical design insights participants can use in their own yard, and how artistic elements can elevate garden composition to create a more welcoming outdoor space. Pavlis is an award-winning author, educator and myth-buster with more than 40 years of gardening experience. He is the creator of the popular website GardenMyths.com and owner of Aspen Grove Gardens, a six-acre botanical garden featuring thousands of plant varieties. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT TO PLAN 2026 WORLD CULTURAL FESTIVAL

The Valparaiso International Center is seeking volunteers to help plan its next World Cultural Festival. A volunteer callout meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 201 N. Washington St., Valparaiso. Every year, thousands of people gather at Central Park Plaza to enjoy live cultural performances, international food, children’s activities, community booths and the colorful Parade of Nations. The Festival offers many ways to get involved, such as entertainment, food vendors, sponsorships, marketing, children’s activities, logistics and decorations. REGIONAL CARE GROUP TO HOST ANNUAL GALA

Regional Care Group will host its annual gala, Illuminated by Hope – A Table for All, Friday at Chateau Banquets, 530 W. 61st Ave., Merrillville. The black-tie event begins at 6 p.m., with a VIP experience at 5 p.m. The evening will celebrate hope, community and the organization’s mission to provide compassionate, life-changing care across Northern Indiana. GARY LIBRARY HOSTS TWO UPCOMING PROGRAMS

The public is invited to attend a book signing for Just Ernestine (Ernestine Bean) from noon to 2 p.m. May 23 at the Main Branch of the Gary Public Library, 220 W. Fifth Ave. A native of Gary, Bean is an author whose work explores grief, healing, identity, and restoration with clarity, compassion and restraint. The Woodson Branch, 501 S. Lake St., will present “Getting Your IRS Debt Sorted: The Insider’s Guide to Fresh Start Secrets” at 5 p.m. May 28. Presented by Seandrea Earls, a Northwest Indiana resident and a veteran tax expert, the 30-minute educational presentation will provide information on options the IRS doesn’t always advertise. Earls has more than 11 years of federal and private-sector experience, including four years as an IRS Revenue Officer. Both programs are free to attend. SAVE THE DUNES HOSTS ANNUAL DUNES DASH

Save the Dunes will host the Annual Dunes Dash 5K Run/Walk and Kids Run from 8 to 11 a.m. May 30 at West Beach, 376 N. County Line Road, Gary. All funds raised will be used to support Save the Dunes’ work to advance goals in land preservation, habitat restoration and public access. Registration is $30. Passes may be purchased at the gate, in advance on the registration page, or in person at the Save the Dunes office, 444 Barker Road, Michigan City. In addition to the Dunes Dash, an Open House celebrating the 74th anniversary of the organization will be held from 10 a.m. to Noon June 20 at the Save the Dunes office. The event will feature guided tours of the Barker House, light refreshments and a brief presentation on the historic legacy of Save the Dunes.
