Hi,
New to terrariums and I'm not sure my kit has arrived with enough pebbles/gravel for the base layer, compared to the photo they sent at least.
I added the pebbles to the bottom then spread the charcoal over the top in the hope that it would neatly sit on top but it's just filled in the gaps.
I read that the pebble layer is needed to prevent root rot? Do I need to add more?
Also, the kit didn't come with soil and I'm seeing mixed advice on what to use. Can I just use John Innes no. 1 or 2? Or is seedling mix best? (I don't want to have to start buying ingredients to blend my own as it's a lot of outlay for stuff I might not use again!)
Thanks!

You want at least an inch of pebble layer. All the excess water goes there, instead of sitting in the soil. Charcoal layer works like a filter. So the ideal version would be like what you see in the picture there: pebble, charcoal, and soil.
Is that all the pebbles that came with the box? I haven’t used that product before, but you might wanna ask for a refund if that’s the case. If you wanna just move forward, no problem. Just go outside and get some pebbles (wash first). Charcoal layer is more or less optional, so you can just use what you have there or get some more from the store.
