I know it’s some sort of something cactus but what kind of something cactus is it?

    Oh yeah first to mention that I’m in California and I bought the some sort of something cactus in California as well.

    Gymnocalycium sp. I’m not super familiar with the genus but I’m sure someone at [r/cactus](r/cactus) can provide the species name.

    Looks like a Echinocactus. If you were near the chihuahuan desert I would guess Echinocactus texensis (Horse Crippler Cactus)

    That looks like a type of peyote cactus.

    Looks like a Gymnocalycium. My guesses for species are schroederanium, platense, and stellatum. Part of the challenge is Gymnos can take on some varying forms based on how they are grown and have been bred to have different body shapes and different shaped spines even though its the same species.

    Good news, looks like its getting ready to flower, which will help narrow down the ID further. Besides looking cool, gymnos are often known for being frequent showy bloomers across the genus.
