PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — Firefighters have contained a small brush fire that broke out Sunday in Palm Beach Gardens, officials said, with crews continuing to monitor hot spots into the evening.

Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue, along with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service, responded to the blaze in a wooded area between the Home Depot on Donald Ross Road and Bonsai Circle near Alton Town Center.

Authorities said a total of 14 units were deployed to the scene. The fire burned an estimated 1 to 2 acres and was brought under control using fire lines.

No structures or homes were damaged, and no injuries have been reported. Officials also said the fire is not considered suspicious.

Earlier in the day, residents near the Legends at the Gardens community reported seeing smoke and active firefighting efforts just feet from residential areas.

“Kind of a scary situation on Mother’s Day. This is really close to people’s homes,” a nearby homeowner told CBS12 News. “People go walking back there with their pets and everything, and brush fires pick up really, really quickly, and the wind’s kinda blowing right now.”

Fire officials later confirmed wind was a contributing factor in how quickly the fire spread through the wooded area.
