Planted bareroot beech hedge in January this year and I can see buds on it. I have also scraped the main stem with my nail and its green underneath so its alive. You can see buds but just slightly worried as to why they are not opening yet. I see alot of beech hedges are lovely and green now. I am watering it twice a week.

It’s fine some leaf a bit later than others nature is amazing you can never count on the same thing to happen twice . The fact there is buds means there is leafs developing and are perfectly healthy.
I’d give it a bit more water, and clear the vegetation from both sides a little more.
I’m no expert but once there’s buds there you should be fine. They’re probably slower than other hedges because they haven’t developed a good root system yet.
Also in my experience I notice everyone else’s hedges/flowers/vegetables doing better than mine. But you rarely notice the ones that are struggling. Human nature I suppose
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i believe these are not going well. I planted a lot of them bare root in Feb/Mar, gave them a good trim and at this stage they all have plenty fresh green leaves.
New beech hedges can take a little longer. Keep them watered.
Some take longer to bed in especially depending on your soil type. Mine were all in shock after planting last year and this year they are looking better.
They look grand to me. Takes time for them to come good. Mine are in about five years and only really coming into leaf this week but look great now. They were very slow the first 2-3 yrs.
I was in the same headspace as you last week! Just give it time yours look exactly like mine did last week and mine are green now!
