This apt complex that my friend just moved into has some really weird trees. I had to take some pictures and I'm just curious if anyone knows why they are like this there are probably like 6-7 on the property that look like this.

Some sort of canker?
its like an immune response could be from disease but they look otherwise healthy

Those appear to be burls. Probably reaction wood from repeated pruning.
Considering the absolute lack of root space, I’m sincerely impressed these trees are still alive.
